The menu sports many dishes prepared the way they are made on the French Shore of Nova Scotia where many Acadians settled. Every traditional item is flagged with a ... well... a flag! Yes, there is a little Acadian flag beside each of them. This is an experience you won't get anywhere else in the Halifax area. So, if you can't make it to the French Shore, get yourself here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. And if you are lucky enough to be around on a Sunday, ask for the freshly-baked Rappie Pie. This is a delicious potato-based Acadian recipe (rappie is taken from the French word rapure, meaning grated) containing meat and vegetables. IF you are there for breakfast, try the fish cakes, served up with a side of baked beans and home fries. Or if morning fish is not your fancy, go for the usual bacon and eggs or omelettes. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful at this Acadian jewell in Halifax. Don't miss it!For more information on Rappie.Pie, check the Wikipedia entry. Service was excellent. Staff were friendly & helpful. Quick Service as well. My wife & I ordered the Meat Pie. Probably the best meat pie we have ever come across. The meat was done perfectly. Pastry was delicious. Highly Recommend this Cafe !!! Will be going back soon for some Rappie Pie.
The food here was very plain. Though freshly cooked it was simple and home like. This was appealing on one level. The surroundings are also very plain, almost like a kitchen. The service was not very good. It was slow and the orders came out in 3 lots which meant some were eating and others were not. As we were the only table this should not have happened. The haddock was very fresh and the meat pie was good.
Yummy yummy yummy! We ordered the pan fried haddock with baked potato and the meat pie. Both were delicious and plentiful. If you find yourself in a hurry just slow down....the service is friendly, conscientious and relaxing. This spot is one of my new favourites. Don't be put off by the location....it's not fancy but it feels relaxing and welcoming.
This place is great! My wife and I have eaten here numerous times since moving to Halifax. We have never been disappointed. The restaurant is a good size and simply decorated, but clean, hospitable and very homey. The food is really good comfort food, and they offer free soup with meals which my wife always loves. The prices are excellent for what you get. I always recommend it to everyone I meet traveling through now as it is a great spot to grab lunch along the Bedford highway.
