Feedback gevenHalifax is fortunate to have such a high quality tasting menu style restaurant. Chef Joe took the time to describe to me and my wife all that goes into obtaining and preparing the high quality ingredients - finding purveyors of organic seasonal vegetables and fruit and foragers of wild mushrooms, etc. The Kitchen Table presents what is more an event than just a meal. It was fascinating to watch the care that goes into the preparation and preparation of the food. The charcuterie in the front of the building is definitely worth trying as well.
I don’t know how and where should I start…. I don’t usually write review but for The Kitchen Table, I am writing this one because I want to spread the word and hope that this one of the kind restaurant will last, not like other restaurants in Metro, they opened and closed within a few years. In my opinion, you have to be an open-minded person and willing to try anything, and like surprises, then you should try The Kitchen Table. If not, you should still try it, you WILL NOT regret it. NOTE: if you have any food allergies or vegetarian or other requests, you may advise them ahead of time, then the Chef may adjust the menu accordingly. This is what the Chef had told me because I am planning to go back again with my friends and one of them is a vegetarianWhen I booked the reservation for two on-line, it does not have a menu, it is not like the usual restaurant, which you can go in without reservations and have a set menu, which you can go on-line ahead of time to view what you like to order. None of that.It is like a private diner, the Chef makes up 8 courses meals. I decided to try this because I like surprises, like to try new things, and like to try new restaurants that I have not yet tried. From each dish, I can tell the Chef has put in thoughts and time for preparations, and the love and passions of food that he had brought to each dish. Chief told me most of the ingredients were prepared ahead of time, picked from the valleys/farms…. all from the Locals. I love to Support the Locals…. The most surprising thing is even the teas that they offered for the desert, it is not like other restaurants which use Store brought tea bags, the ingredients are also from the Locals picked from the Farm lands in NS, some also picked by the Chief personally…. One of the ingredients is the most hated (at least I hate to see them on my Lawn) dandelion, there were so many other ingredients, but I don’t remember their names…..they actually asked you which one would you like to mix with, I asked to mix all of them together and my friend asked them to mix a few together……. The teas were awesome…..I was lucky enough that night only my boyfriend and I were the only two people for dinner (they take max. of 20 people for dinner), so we have the whole restaurant for ourselves, therefore, we were able to talk to the chief and sit at the bench and watched him to prepare each dish. It was a fun night. The Services were also superb……In conclusion, from start to finish, the foods and services were superb…….MUST TRY!!!
What a fabulous meal and experience! We celebrated my birthday here eating kitchen side so we could interact with the chefs and watch the magic happen. It may have been the best meal I ever ate! The depth of flavours was incredible, plate presentation excellent and creativity beyond anything I've ever had! It is an 8 course tasting menu and all you need to do is arrive with an open mind and enjoy....I even ate peas and liked them (not happened for me ever before). Service was attentive but never intrusive. We will definitely be back. This is now my new favourite restaurant in Halifax!
We were a party of 13 and the attention we received from reserving our seats, right up until the end of the evening was bar none. The staff, food and atmosphere are all worth writing about. We will no doubt be back for another culinary adventure at Kitchen Table.
It's hard to find the words to describe this fine dining experience. My sister and I were wowed by the incredibly delicious and creative dishes, the ambiance (we sat at the bar) and the culinary skill levels of Joe and Frederic. I have been fortunate to dine at some Michelin starred restaurants and would have to say this one ranks up there with them, no question. If you're in Halifax, treat yourself to The Kitchen Table and get the wine pairings. It's worth it and you'll have a memory to treasure always.
