This is a neighbourhood spot that I hadn't been to for a while and seemed like a perfect proximity spot for a Wednesday lunch with friends. Both my dining companions selected entrees from the featured lunch menu sheet. One decided on the Totally Triple Lunch Combo which included soup, salad, and sandwich. The broccoli cheddar soup of the day was picked, along with the Caesar salad, and the accompanied 1/2 BBQ Chicken Club sandwich. The serving tray featured hearty portion sizes and each item was a tasty hit. My other dining companion went with the Serious Soup N' Salad Combo with the Sonoma salad and roasted red pepper & tomato soup. Again the portion sizes were huge, and the meal was quite filling and enjoyable. I've often had the Sonoma salad at Kelsey's and it's a favourite of mine too.I selected from the regular menu the Birthday Suit Chicken Fingers. Loved the quirky name of the dish. For the price ($11.99) the fries should have been included, but I had to pay an additional $1.99. The menu described the fries as fresh chip truck fries - where they got that description I don't know as they were nothing like the name. In fact, the fries were the worst I've ever had and that is saying something. This sounds strange, but I couldn't figure out what the problem was - were they undercooked or overcooked. All I know is that they were not tender, seemed dried out inside, and lacked any semblance of flavour. Some were just plain hard as a rock. Huge disappointment. (No, I didn't speak up to the server as I didn't want to bring attention to my dissatisfaction when dining with my friends). Now the 5 chicken fingers were excellent and I ordered them with plum sauce for dipping. I guess the dipping sauce you chose is what elevates the "birthday suit" chicken fingers further as they are lightly coated in a crispy batter. Other chicken finger menu choices were topped with other flavours and coatings.Service was prompt and no complaints. Hopefully, when you dine at Kelsey's the cook plates your "fresh chip wagon" fries done to perfection. I sure missed the "fresh" part of the menu promise. If you are in doubt don't pay the extra charge or by all means speak up if the fries are unappetizing.
1. The hostess seated us and went off in her sales pitch about the days liquor special and I asked any specials on food to which she replied "no specials on food" then walked away.2. our waitress was terrible, she was capable and putting on makeup but that's where it starts and that's where it ends with her. We ordered our food to get in and out of there. Took 20 mins for our food to arrive. There was 1 other customer in the entire place inside at one other table.4. I ordered a $18 pasta only to find out that it dosen't even include a small salad of any kind. Such a treat!5. We were thinking (while the food was being prepared)... should we stay... should we go....6. While we waited, there is no complimentary bread of any kind7. Food arrived, pasta has the most tiny piece of chicken on it... not 2 pieces... 1 piece. On a tiny bed of pasta8. The best part... the visa machine is rigged by Kelseys to prevent giving a $0 tip. It would NOT accept it. Like are you kidding me?I followed up with a email to corporate. And let me tell you... corporate may be even more poorly handled than the franchise (which is scary). Customer service at corporate could not even locate their own Ancaster location.
I visit this restaurant every couple of months. The meal I had at lunch last week was very disappointing. I order their beet, goat cheese and grilled chicken salad. I order this often. The salad they brought to me had canned, diced beets, that were not fully rinsed of their canning residue. I expect at least fresh beets. Substandard at best!
Had the worst service ever. Was there with my two daughters before a family movie. Waited over 30 minutes for kids meals and when my dinner finally showed up it wasn't even what I had ordered. Will not be returning.
