Restaurant Haus Hammersbach

The Sentido hotel seems to have several restaurants - don't know how interconnected they are, but I ate in the Hammersbacher Hütte in the separate hut by the rushing stream and the path to the Höllental. I picked it because I thought it still had sun on the terrace - the sun had actually stopped by about 6pm but it was still reasonably warm and had great views over the sunlit mountains and hotel buildings. But the food was the winner. I had brilliantly grilled medallions of 3 different meats with cheesy noodles that would compete with many American mac n’ cheeses, plus access to the salad bar. One of the best meals I had in Germany. Certain dishes looked expensive compared to what I had paid elsewhere, but the meal I got was €16 and worth every cent. Menu was only in German but the staff were great and seemed to speak English.

In the area last July '15 for a reunion among old friends & former co-workers when I lived in the area in the mid 80s. My dinner companion & still close friend ate there one evening. The service was prompt and friendly without being overly attentive. It probably helped that my companion, as a resident of Garmisch, speaks German plus she speaks perfect English so she acted as my translator. I ordered trout. It was absolutely perfectly prepared *sigh!*. The portion was a bit bigger (3 large fillets + sides) than I anticipated but I still nearly finished all but 3 or 4 bites. The restaurant was spotless, the food was A+, the service was a 10. I'm returning in 2017 & will ABSOLUTELY return there for dinner...hopefully with the same beautiful woman who accompanied me. Website is in English & German but does not have a menu. To me, the entree was "Fine Dining" while the expense was "Mid Range".

The half board deal is cheap but the a la carte menu is much nicer. The range of foods is amazing, beautifully cooked and portions are huge. Breakfast is an amazing buffet. Reasonable drinks prices.

The restaurant in the hotel in Hammersbach is always good for the money. We had a lovely meal and great service on Christmas day. I would highly recommend them.

Great dinner, service, and ambience. Being in Germany as a vegetarian can be daunting. However, this restaurant had a great selection and my meal came with a trip to the salad bar.
