Some of the best carolina style bbq I've ever had. the potato salad reminds me of the mother and oma. navy bean and bean are delicious. sometimes there's a waiting list for the questions. I have tried almost everything on their menu and I have only one complaint and that is that they are closed on Sundays and montages.
Very homey. Simple Southern BBQ, served in a paper bag. They don't sell fries, but all the other staples that go along with BBQ. Coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, green beans and seasonally collard greens. A few other items such as ribs. Baked Beans top-tier, served in a Styrofoam cup.Food: 5/5
The baked beans was all right. However, the BBQ was cold, without any sauce and absolutely flavorless. The meat was white (please see attached photo). It surely wasn 't beef. To top off, the owner is somewhat rough around the edges, which discouraged us from going back there to return the food. We literally threw it away and got food from somewhere else. Huge waste of time and money.
I've been going to Wilkes for years and the food has always been yummy. Yesterday I stopped by, ordered a bb chicken dinner a rib dinner. It was almost 25.00 dollars, (23 change). I thought to myself, this must be one hell of a dinner. Wrong, the ribs were terrible. They were cold, tough hard to chew. The texture of the meat was like they had cooked them days earlier microwaved to serve. Upon looking closely at the meat I could see the membrane had not been pulled off of the back which explains the toughnest hard to chew. The sides were great, they tasted like grandmas. Quality ribs should o have a nice pop or snap not a Pull Tug exercise. When you pull up to a bbq dive don't see smoke coming out of a stack in the roof or somewhere on the premises, you don't smell the aroma in the air, know that that meat has been cooked days earlier, if not weeks.
