Compared to other Balti dishes I have tried at places like Muhib in Brick Lane, the flavor at Belash was lacking. The rice, naan, and side dish were decent, but overall, I found this restaurant to be average.
Eventually, we received our starters and mains around an hour after arriving. The food was my main issue. The chicken tikka dish I ordered had tough and flavorless chicken pieces. My wife's king prawn dish had small, pale prawns that lacked pink color. All the dishes were under-seasoned and bland. The vegetable curry and Bombay Aloo had an odd sheen and were overly sweet. Overall, the food was disappointing. It's a shame because Belash used to be the best Indian restaurant in Crouch End years ago, but something has changed. I'm not sure if there's new ownership or chefs, but the quality has definitely declined. The prices are reasonable, but I would rather pay more for a better meal elsewhere in the future.
The king prawn balti was disappointing with a few small, overcooked prawns and an abundance of undercooked onions. The chicken tikka starter was also subpar, with tough chicken and a lot of gristle. The three vegetable curries were decent, but not enough to make up for the overall poor quality. It is time for local curry houses to update their cuisine. I may consider giving this place another chance in a couple of months, in hopes that the food will improve.
I have been a customer for many years and can thoroughly recommend the Belash for it’s great food , especially the Tandoori, and it’s great service. Excellent.
Such a fantastic meal thank you. Great for vegetarians too. I'll be ordering takeaway from here regularly from now on
