Do you remember the days when you would walk into a pub and order a pint of bitter? Back then, if you were a fan of real ale, your options were limited to Tetley or John Smith's. There wasn't much choice beyond that, unless you were willing to settle for a rather bland lager. The Railway is similar to those old pubs, except here they serve Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Bitter as their sole beer on tap. While this may not offer the variety of high-strength, hoppy beers that some may prefer, the quality of the beer is top-notch. If you're looking to treat a visitor to a truly English pub experience with a pint of traditional English beer, look no further. The craft beer revolution has certainly overshadowed the big brewers like Watneys, Whitbread, and Worthington, who failed to produce beer as good as Samuel Smith's. And the best part? A perfectly poured pint of Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Bitter will only set you back £2.
We stayed near here so popped in for an hour or so and really glad we did. What a lovely pub. The staff were chatty and friendly, as were the regulars and the beer was beautiful. The pub is a Sam Smith pub so it is very cheap and the beer is good. If you fancy a quick pint or a night of friendly chat I would recommend dropping in The Railway, you will not be disappointed
We have a drink here as part of our walks or bike rides, primarily to give the second village pub some business. Typically time warped Sam Smiths pub but in a good way. Although the brewery needs to invest in the beer garden.
I am disappointed to report that the Railway Inn is still closed with no reopening date in sight. The inn, owned by Samuel Smith's brewery, has not provided any additional details regarding their future plans.
