We spent a night at The Anchor Inn as we were attending a wedding nearby. It’s a lovely, old pub with lots of character. Our room was clean and spacious if a little stuffy, but it was an incredibly hot weekend so that was to be expected. Breakfast service wasn’t great; we had to prompt a waiter to ask what the options were and he asked whether a full English would be okay. It was seemingly the only option, although we were all happy to have it and it was lovely when it arrived. Sadly the orange juice wasn’t freshly squeezed; it was more like watered down squash from a machine. The stairs up to the accommodation could also do with some love. They felt quite tatty compared to the rest of the pub. Overall, it was a good place to stay, but fell short in a few areas.
I visited on a Tuesday afternoon after a walk in the area. I ordered a pint of lemonade and a packet of crisps and was charged £10.80! I paid by contactless before I had realised how expensive this was and had a chance to question it. The pub is pretty and has a nice garden, but not worth the prices.
