We were in town to go see “Beetlejuice” at the Bushnell Theater. We enjoyed Delicious food and great service! We ordered some of Peppercorns signature dishes of baby artichokes, fried zucchini flowers, fresh oysters, beautiful buttery tagliatelle with shaved black truffles from Umbria, Italy, amongst others. Portions were reasonable. Mason, our waiter was very attentive. We were a little too snug in a corner of the front room, but it was worth it for absolutely divinely flavorful food. Impressed. Would definitely return.
The food was amazing but the service was not good. We had to wait a long time to even be approached by our server. We ordered the fig app which was delicious but the server did not bring bread until we were nearly done and asked us half way through eating the app if we were finished. Our drinks did not arrive until we had our entrees and we had to remind him we were still waiting for those. The pastas were delicious but then it took forever to get our check and we were trying to make it to the show at the Bushnell. We asked one person (not our waiter) and they said they'd get it...10 minutes later we asked our server and he said the same, then proceeded to set up another table knowing we were in a hurry. We had to tell the server we really need our check. I come here every time before I go to a show and usually love it, but I hope I don't have the same experience again.
Dishes were well presented and. Very good quality. Large menu offered choices for any taste or preference. A vintage restaurant that seems to have withstood decades of service. Not inexpensive but seemed to be worth the cost.
First time visiting, probably should've selected a different day than Mother's Day and a popular local graduation weekend. I gave an extra star for this reason and the fact that despite the chaotic day, everyone remained cheerful. As most restaurants do on busy days, Peppercorns squeezed in extra tables to accommodate the popular dining out day. However, the space between our table and the one across the “aisle” was too tight and waiters and patrons were bumping our table to squeezing through the entire meal, making it uncomfortable for all. The service was efficient but rushed we were asked for our order as the cocktails were served and our meal came within minutes. The food was rushed as well. The ravioli was unevenly warm and rubbery (seemed microwaved) and salmon severely undercooked. The sides and bread were tasty. Again, I don't want to judge them too harshly as it was a busy day. That is why despite the less than pleasant experience, I would try them again during a quieter time and why I would recommend them, with this caveat.
