The Marketplace model is heavily done in Denver, where I live, so I wasn 't immediately impressed (though you absolutely would be if you 're not used to this! . However, Eataly did have some things that helped it stand out from this new restaurant trend, and I was also told it was one of the first marketplaces built! For one, the building is much more opulent than trendy. Chandeliers, cute sayings, and incredibly well maintained, the space really maximizes its ability to be beautiful. Another thing I noticed is that it looked like their stall-style food vendors were offering really quality items. The butcher had some burgers I almost wanted to ship back home to grill! The other thing that really sets Eataly apart from spaces like it is that there are multiple sit down restaurants within the space, offering a nicer version of marketplace food. We sat in the La Pizza La Pasta restaurant towards the back of the second floor, and I was really impressed with the ambiance of the space. Large windows, clean and trendy tables and decor, and a beautifully presented bread basket made this feel like a really nice lunch. Service was not great. A little distant, unfriendly, and distracted. Nothing terrible, but definitely the biggest detractor from the experience. We ordered the Tagliatelle based on our servers recommendation, and the ziti based on our craving. The tagliatelle was AMAZING! It was definitely the standout for my friend and I. Delicious, homemade pasta with generous servings of beef and a light sauce, we craved it and ate the leftovers before the end of the day. We were told the ziti is served al dente prior to ordering, to make sure we were okay with a firmer pasta, and boy we were! The texture of the pasta was the best part of the dish. An amazing sauce and hunks of mozzarella didn 't hurt, though. Wine was a bit pricey here, but it seemed on point with the other restaurants in the area. Plan on about $15 a glass. Overall I would definitely return here. It wasn 't a stand out restaurant but the pasta was fantastic and the space is great. I wouldn 't reserve this spot as your nice dinner joint if you 're visiting from out of town, but eating here for lunch was perfect. I would have given five stars if the service was more friendly, but our experience there could have been a one off. Come try it and at the very least split your favorite pasta dish!
Italian beefs are great, but the Prime Rib Sandwich at Eataly is INCREDIBLE. How they make such a simple sandwich (bread, sliced prime rib, olive oil, sea salt pepper) taste so freaking good is mind-boggling. I probably have one once a year, but I wish I could have this once a week. The first time we tried it, we hadn't even finished our first bite before we ordered 2 more. Pick up a container of the Amaretto Honey before your next dinner party. Paired with a hard Italian or French cheese, this honey is a knockout! This isn't the place to do every day grocery shopping but it's awesome for specialty products, delicious meals unique classes.
Whether it's your first time to Chicago, or you're a native, a stop to Eataly when you're downtown is a must. There are a variety of options from drinks to dessert that everyone can enjoy. I stopped by here to get out of the cold and eat gelato! The pistachio gelato is delicious and generously portioned, even for a small size. I also ordered a box of 4 assorted small desserts. If you end up liking the small ones there are larger versions that you can purchase as well. Often this place is packed, but in the middle of the day, there were plenty of spots to sit, relax, and enjoy. While my stop today was for desserts, often the wine and appetizers are a great choice as well. It may be tough to accommodate a huge party here; however it's great for small groups or even if you're coming alone to browse.
This place was great I loved the market the only thing I don't like is not much options for restaurants. But it was a spectacular experience the pasta, ravioli, pizza and bread with olive oil, Prosecco, red wine and the service was great. Then when you go to the first floor after eating you can have some desserts, coffee and cannolis. If you want you can go shopping and you will find a variety of items that are imported from Italy and it's a foodies heaven. Love this place, please visit all of them that they have. Try the prosciutto and the fresh mozzarella it's delicious.
We are doing the tourist thing today at Eataly in downtown Chicago. I do love coming here. The main reason is the food is excellent and high quality. Today I stopped at one of the many food counters for Arancini Di Funghi E Tartufi (Fried Balls of Risotto with Cheese, Truffles, and Mushrooms) and a glass of wine. Everything was wonderful. The service is amazing per usual. The only issue and this is to be expected is that it is always crowded and particularly with folks who are not from the area. You will find a lot of kids and such milling around. If crowds are not your thing this is not the place for you. However, the food, service, and shopping is well worth it. I have not been disappointed yet by a single item I've purchased.
