Every night we visited a different highly recommended restaurant. The third night we visited Gron and were blown away, both by the quality of the food and hospitality. The chefs served some of the courses themselves, which gave the place a very warm and cooperative atmosphere (In contrast to the cold and stuffy Savoy we visited the previous evening). The portion sizes were perfect, and the extra bread provided was a lovely touch of generosity. Below is how I'd rank each of the restaurants we visited, from lowest to highest: 4. The Savoy 3. Kuu 2. Olo 1. Gron If you go to one really nice restaurant in Helsinki, pick this one!
We were a party of three people and decided to order two regular summer menus and one vegan menu out of curiosity. This way, we were able to taste a variety of dishes from both menus. The vegan menu surpassed our expectations with incredibly fresh flavors compared to the summer menu. Regardless of which menu you choose, you won't be disappointed. The wine pairings were excellent, although the pairing with the special beer was not to my liking. I would suggest replacing the beer with wine for a more enjoyable experience.
Small portions of 13 dishes, nothing special, not enough to taste properly. Wine cooler in the toilet LITERALLY.
I don't understand how anyone could find anything to complain about from my experience at this restaurant. I have dined at several of theworlds50best.com establishments, including four of the top five, in the past 18 months, and the food here is just as impressive. The service was not overbearing, as some have suggested. The atmosphere is quite casual with only 20 seats, which adds to its charm. One of the most important things for me is portion size, and I was pleased to find that the portions were just right. I was able to finish every bite without feeling overly full. For around $300, including wine pairing, it felt like a bargain.
One if the finest gourmet experiences in town. Superb service and innovative kitchen with local seasonal specialities.
