This is on a mezzanine above the ticketing counters, so we had to walk out of the airport up the escalator in the parking garage and then head back into the airport on the departures level. We landed at 4am SJO January 17th, 2024 after a red eye from the US. We needed a place to recuperate and refresh before our tour pick up at 7am. This fit the bill. Language barrier caused me to end up with 2 cappuccino's instead of 1 but the price was similar to a Starbucks. The placement of the cashier was odd (she was on the outside of the counter and only takes the payment, cannot help make food or drink, hence the wait times... . A guy inside the bar area makes the food and drink and you pick up on the opposite side of where you pay. Odd and confusing arrangement IMO. Loads of passengers using tables without ordering, but it was quite early. It's not clear that the tables are for cafe patrons only. We did not experience rude or unpleasant behavior.
They didn 't have anything but soda and a few old croissants and beer and liqueur and one of the guys went through and kicked everyone out that wasn 't buying anything. This is a waiting area for for people waiting on your planes because you can 't just enter. He literally told everyone this is a restaurant and threw people out that were just chilling waiting to check in... the seats weren 't full. Tehy also microwave their food, and I won 't eat from a micro. As you can see in the photos. It didn 't have food and the chairs are empty... that is the guy... SUPER RUDE...
Ended up with three hours to kill in this cafe with my friends; we found the staff understanding and very accommodating. My fellow reviewers expect a little much from a 24/7 airport cafe. We just felt lucky for a comfortable place to wait out our flight home. Thanks Lavazza SJO!
Just when I thought we wouldn 't try to be scammed by another person in this country, I was wrong. Gentlemen touting Pura Vida harassed me for opening up leftovers. Claimed it 's a restaurant when clearly its gas station food for sale. Extremely, disappointed and embarrassed that this is my last experience in this beautiful country.
Very convenient stop for a quick coffee, drink or snack. Before going through the airport security. The staff working are extremely helpful and nice. They follow all COVID 19 protocols and social distance.
