Cafeteria Leyendas - Heredia

This is one of the best finds in San Jose! My family and I enjoyed an amazing experience in a treasure of a restaurant. The staff are friendly and hospitable, the food is flavorful Costa Rican fare. The ambiance is relaxed and welcoming. Do yourself a favor and enjoy this gem!

Even though the place is near one of Heredia 's busiests streets, once you get in you feel you entered a place where time just stopped. Memories from old would come to your mind and you will embrace the Costa Rica of early XX century. Food is good. Try the Pinto con Huevos Rancheros , you will not be disappointed. Fresh salsa greets a couple of eggs cooked to your taste, with a good portion of Pinto and sour cream. Don 't forget the plantains... Start your morning Big! The crew is helpful and willing to prepare anything according to your instructions.

This is one of my favorite weekend breakfast and weekday lunch special restaurants. I love the food and visit often. The food is good homemade meals that are healthy and well priced. I've never paid more than 5,000 colones (around 10 U.S. dollars). The menu is somewhat limited to local dishes such as gallo pinto and omelets for breakfast and casados or chicken lasagna for daily lunch specials but I always receive great service and savory food.

During our 3-day stay in San José/Heredia, we visited Leyendas every morning for a delicious Costa Rican breakfast. The owners were extremely kind and took the time to explain how to best enjoy our meal. Their genuine happiness when we returned on the second and third days was evident. If you're looking for a typical breakfast with amazing coffee or hot chocolate, surrounded by locals, Leyendas is the place to go. You will not be disappointed!
