Save your money by skipping the tourist trap that is San Sebastián and come here! After two days of disappointing eating around San Sebastián (which included pintxos and a 3 Michelin star meal), we were fed up with standing room-only places that exploded with tourists and where the food was, simply put, just not that great. A largely disappointing experience and what was supposedly one of the world’s top restaurants left us €600 short and wondering if San Sebastián was just hype… Having heard so many great things about Basque cuisine, we knew something wasn’t right… until we found this place. Unfortunately we were not that hungry so only ordered three dishes, but each one was just what we had imagined Basque food to be. Fresh, flavourful, with an obsessive focus on provenance and quality. The steak of wild Navarran cow was a highlight. The restaurant is under new management since last December apparently, but the new team is already doing some great things… and a look at the menu tells you they’re not afraid to experiment. Will come back next time we’re in the region.
