The Gables Restaurant - Hertford

The restaurant is located in a charming village setting and offers decent food. However, the service does not live up to its 5-star rating and the high prices. For example, we had to reorder after receiving the wrong specials menu, the hot dessert arrived cold and was microwaved to boiling point, and there was no offer to take our coats on a quiet night. While the waiters were friendly, their actions seemed routine. Overall, it is still a good place to eat with limited competition in the area.

First time here for years and really impressed. Proper old fashioned restaurant feel with owner/manager coming round to talk. Great extensive menu, delicious food and excellent service, will definitely be back.

Titled "Always Friendly and Welcoming Crew", this restaurant never fails to impress with their attentive waitstaff who interact with customers and the talented chef. Every meal and experience here has been outstanding. The menu is extensive, offering something for everyone. Two of us enjoyed the fish dishes while our husbands opted for the pork dish, all of which were impeccably prepared and served. With three starters, four mains, a couple of bottles of excellent wine, coffees, and brandy, plus a generous tip for the entertaining service, the bill came to just over £250. Thank you once again for a great dining experience.

Woooow what a fabulous meal and the staff were so perfectly attentive . The menu was understated, I have never enjoyed Octopus anywhere in the world more than at The Gables . Then Proper Lobster meat in Ravioli was also stunning. Theo, the main man , led his team with total confedence. What a fantastic team .Ten stars and that 's out of five. We will be back! ,

I have dined at this restaurant many times, as it is local to us and only a 5-minute drive away. Last year, we celebrated my wife's milestone birthday with about 30 guests, and it was absolutely first class. Every visit here has been memorable. The hospitality at The Gables is top-notch, with every staff member welcoming guests like old friends. On our most recent visit, five of us enjoyed a delicious meal for my wife's upcoming birthday. The starters were all fantastic, with my special off-the-menu white bait dish being a standout. For mains, we had a variety of dishes including porchetta and swordfish, all of which were delicious. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in a Mediterranean style and the toilets are always spotless. The prices are fair for the high quality of food and service provided. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for a fantastic dining experience.
