Scottish Steakhouse - Highland

One of the worst meals I can say I have ever experienced! Myself and twins were advised by a call mid afternoon that it was “curry night Tuesday”…nothing else to choose from! The twins are not fussy eaters but couldn’t eat the chicken curry. Containers with lumps of hard rice, chicken curry that was luke warm and generally all very disappointing all round! Sadly reminded me of school dinners…

We stay at Dalfaber a couple of times a year and have always enjoyed a meal here. This time was equally enjoyable, excellent food and service. Very nice attentive staff, particularly the lady who has been there a long time, she certainly looked after us. Thank you

Staying here just now ... so poor , waited 50 min and had to ask if our starters were coming , my wife got hers which had obviously been sitting on the pass for god knows how long ... 10 mins later I got mine, 2 mins after we finished our mains turned up , both as dry as sand. No point saying to the poor waiter as he was on his own serving the bar and the restaurant... This place professes to be 4 going on 5 star .. they really do need to reevaluate that... 400 quid nearly for 3 days self-catering... oh dear so poor

We have been visiting the Steakhouse since it first opened some 40 years ago. Until very recently it had professional, friendly and helpful staff. It also had an attractive and realistically priced menu. However, last evening's experience was at best very disappointing and at worst a disgrace. On arrival we were introduced to a new waiter who was working his first shift. Well, that was fair enough, but it soon became obvious that he had had no adequate training and that then reflected in the disappointing levels of service we received thereafter. Most of us readily accept that casual dress is the norm but in a more formal restaurant you do expect reasonable standards of appearance and an understanding of the tasks involved. Since our last visit a month or so ago a new menu has been introduced. I started with mussels. These arrived and were very unexpectedly somewhat shriveled and chewy. But of equal importance I was not supplied with any means of cleaning my hands when finished indeed we had to ask for napkins as there were none on the table when we arrived. I have always enjoyed a sirloin steak which previously cost about £35 with plenty of trimmings and a sauce. However, the cost has now increased to £34 for the steak on its own, with everything else as extra and there were no sauces on offer. This meant that the equivalent cost would have been close on £50 for a proper meal. So, I had beer battered fish chips as an alternative. My wife had fisherman's pie as her main course and despite its attractive description on the menu, she was only able to trace a couple of prawns and a small amount of smoked haddock the rest was mashed potato and cheese sauce. We just left after we had eaten our main course and sadly after so many years we won't be returning there are too many other much better choices in Aviemore. This was a bad experience and it was my birthday!

Our family of 6 went for a meal and our waiter was shockingly rude. He would forget us and behaved as though it was a huge inconvenience to have to deal with our family. At the end of the meal we asked to see the desserts menu, he gave them to us and disappeared. After 15 minutes of waiting our 3 year old and 5 year old we're getting very tired by this point we eventually flagged down the manageress and she kindly took our desserts order. After waiting another 25 minutes and still having not received our desserts we were nearly going to leave but decided to try to flag down our rude waiter who had been attending to EVERY table except ours whilst we clearly sat waiting with no food at our table and he mumbled something about banoffee pots which were not even a part of our desserts order he went to kitchen and came back straight away with the desserts. The biscuits in the chocolate pots were soggy so the desserts had clearly been sitting out awhile and our waiter couldn't be bothered to bring them to us. The resataurant was not even busy, apart from our family there was only another 4 or 5 families at the most!! We arrived early for a 1845 booking and didn't manage to leave until after 2040!!!!! Our children were exhausted!!!! Whilst the steaks were delicious the service and desserts massively let down the entire evening. Won't be going back.
