Nova lox bagel sandwich was big and yummy but a bit expensive

Food was good but unfortunately they do not have enough help. There was one waitress for the whole restaurant. She was excellent but had too much to handle. If the restaurant had been full it would have been impossible for her to care for all the tables.

The experience was memorable. We make a visit to Max's every year. The staff has character and is helpful. They are busy.

The Mish Mosh and Corned Beef Pastrami on rye were wonderful. Not cheap, but wonderful. The service was efficient, the greeter funny but our waitress needed a personality. We were there at noon on a Thursday and it was crowded which should tell you all you need to know about the food.

I am not sure about the reason for all the negative reviews. Almost didn't even try this place due to the negative reviews. On the way back from Chicago, almost skipped this place due to the bad reviews and went next door. But next door was closed, so decided to try the place. 1) service — this is not the Ritz Carlton, it's a deli restaurant. While service was not of Ritz Carlton, it was fine.
