To the hospitality and ambiance to the food and onto the short lesson we asked for in how to eat our food in a culturally appropriate way. They have it all. Will recommend over and over and come back again and again. Thank you for an amazing experience
This was our second time here. The food is authentic indian, and very flavorful. If you ask for spicy, it is really spicy. We have tried South Indian thali, Hyd dum biryani, chettinad chicken curry, chicken tikka and samosas. All good. I felt samosa is overpriced compared to other Indian places around. Service is good. Waiting time during weekend lunch is about 30-35 minutes because the place bustles with people and is fully packed. Good going! Editing the review after the third visit. We went on a Thursday to have dosas for 5$ (promotional offer). The sambhar was very tasteless, and the dosa filling had no salt. We just could not relish the dosa at all. Also ordered chettinad pepper chicken, which was ok, a bit too much of pepper. I reduce just 1 star because I loved their food in the first two visits.
My husband and I were visiting Portland from Seattle and came here for dinner with a friend. We ordered a Mysore Masala Dosa, Veg Dum Biryani and Chicken Chettinad Curry. The ambiance was good and the food was delicious but the service was a bit slow. We also asked for filter coffee but their machine was broken so they only had chai. The prices were reasonable too.
Great place to grab a bite of South indian dish. I wish they add a little salt to their masala in the dosa. Adding some curry leaves and pepper would make the veg bonda taste even better.
The best Indian food experience in Portland. Must try the Apollo fish, andhra chicken curry, travancore goat roastand the chili garlic nan (if you love spicy). It’s a delight! I am back, to share something I discovered at Southern Spice yesterday and I wish I knew about it sooner. I love biryani's always have and try them out every place I go. Someone recommended Avakai biryani southern spice which I have never heard of before. I tried it for the first time yesterday, and I am a fan.It is different, very different from the usual biryanis unique in flavor, and one bite and you cannot stop. I tried the Avakai goat, and most likely will be having this for a long time before I go back to any other biryani.
