Being the new kid in town, the Wooden Spoon has done a good job in making its presence well known to the locales. That might be a bit premature at the moment, but for this guy right here, there was nary a flaw that was able to be found with the food that was gotten. Knowing the perfectionism that goes into Thai, when the food jumps well over the bar that has been set as what occurred here then you have gotten yourself something special. To the Wooden Spoon, welcome to the 'hood. <br/ <br/ We all know that good old Thai place down the road, or even the one in town that has gotten all the rave reviews. Whichever one it is, they sure suit themselves as a fall back option and probably would come under 'comfort food ' if we had to truly be honest. A bit of a shake up has occurred here, supplanting one of the reliable locales and replacing it with the hot shot bound to show their worth. Right here is the work from the hands of someone with plenty of experience from Bangkok to Sydney, and now in this sleepy part of town. Knowing what is good, then distinguishing what makes 'great ' Wooden Spoon has truly arrived in fashion, covering all the bases. <br/ <br/ As expected, it came to that wonderful time again a PPV showing on the WWE Network. This time around it was Hell in a Cell. What that meant was planning where to get delivery from this time, organising it to come to the house, and enjoy the fare while watching some wrestling. When something lines up well like this, I make an effort to do a slight theme for it. In other words, with that hell theme that was going on with the event what was most tempting was getting something spicy. Also, it was that cold season again and I had got caught up in it a little so it was even more apt. That came down to one of two options, Indian or Thai. Safe to say it was the latter which won this time. <br/ <br/ So what that meant was hopping back on the UberEats app, and scrolling through the options that were nearby. Lo and behold, this one was new and upon giving a scan of the menu it certainly sounded good. All that was left to do was organise when it was to come around, plug in the order, then sit back and wait for the car to pull up. <br/ <br/ Well, this might be the quickest that an UberEats order has ever reached my house. Why this probably is is because of the proximity. The real added bonus here was that the food was still pipping hot when I opened it up, and what a feast to behold. <br/ <br/ Is this menu a treat or what? It all begins from the starters section, with a keen eye being able to pick it up. While most of them are what would be expected wherever, several bolder bites are mingling in the mix which is just a taste of what is to come. And yes, they do have the usual round of curries, the noodle dishes, and stir fries to get it out of the way. With a handful of exceptions, just choose your meat and flavour. <br/ <br/ What sets this menu apart is a selection of eight less usual dishes, which are either fresher options, can 't be put into one of the former categories, fish that is specially prepared, a fusion version of a favourite curry, specially prepared yet simple meats, or a big version of a street food staple. Each one of these is just as mouth watering as the last, showcasing the cooks ' talents. <br/ <br/ It can even be seen in the desserts menu, when most places have thrown in the towel by just giving folks several fall back selections. They 've gone inventive with a few of them, wanting to make even the bitter (or in this case, sweet) end a memorable one. Can 't I say that even in the absolute finest Thai places I have seen this dedication to being bold, unique and all round enjoyable. Has gold been struck or what? <br/ <br/ The whole meal began with a couple of the reliable starters, with me opting to get curry puffs and fish cakes. With the fish cakes, they more or less are what they are can be a bit on the spicy side sometimes and this one was just that. Following that are the curry puffs, which were filled with a spicy potato mixture that had a good marsala mix in them. Around it all, the pastry was good and solid, making the start of the meal enticing. <br/ <br/ While none of the specialties were acquirable at the time, there were still less usual dishes to be ordered. This was the scallop and prawn pad piccking, which was practically a stir fry with a red curry base, several Thai spices, and some onion and capsicum thrown in. Delicious is a word to use here. The bits of seafood were all so plump, very sweet upon being bitten, and the amount of each served was generous. It was the right amount of tangy, and even had a good taste of basil thrown in there. <br/ <br/ In one way, it was time to make amends with the Thai delivery. A good way to tell if a Thai place is worth their salt or not is to give their spin on the massamum curry a try if that sucker is good, then that is a good sign. That is the reason when my family goes out for Thai that it is locked in to order. The past few times I have sort of skipped it, but thought may as well do it this time. And if it were not already clear, this was possibly the perfect time to order the signature dish. <br/ <br/ When setting the bar for the place in how good the massamum curry was, Wooden Spoon exceeded at that. Getting the curry at a medium spice, it was the perfect intensity to go with the texture of the curry gravy it being rich, smooth, and thick. Into the mix are peanuts, added an additional roasted note, plus potatoes that readily absorb the sauce. Last and not least with all of this is a good cut of beef. The beef they used here, generous right off the bat, was tender and practically melted into the curry sauce. <br/ <br/ Both of those meals were on the verge of perfection. Rounding them all off, a shout out is given to the coconut rice creamy, and lithe as a cloud in the high heavens and the roti generous amount, buttery goodness that goes well absorb the curry sauce. Down to these factors, it was all high quality products emerging from the kitchen. <br/ <br/ So often throughout many reviews I have done on Thai places, a general consensus has often been stated. That consensus is that Thai restaurants whether we are talking about a casual local or going up to almost on the fine level usually hover around being reliable. The quality of the food ranges anywhere between serviceable to pretty damn good, rarely does a bad one seem to come onto the radar. With it all being said, as much as the quality seems to be consistent what is also consistent is you generally know what you are going in for regarding what is one the menu, sometimes with a bit of something extra thrown in, but in general you can know ahead of time what to order. <br/ <br/ This one takes a bit of a different approach, in while they do offer that usual range of noodle based stir fries, and curries, what sets them apart and attracts the due attention possibly is the special dishes where the passion and the imagination of the chef 's have won wild. From what I can recall, most of them were not available on the app; if that is correct, it gives even more incentive to dine in here at some point in the future. <br/ <br/ That will certainly be the case at some point down the line, and not simply because it is in walking distance. Throughout many of the dining experiences I have across all the suburbs of Brisbane, at many points I have gotten to the locale and realised just how lucky the folks living around here are to have a gem in their backyard. Now it is my turn for this, and I would heavily recommend anyone to come across town to try the food out here. It was tasty, they offer something a little bit different, and you won 't be disappointed. <br/ <br/ Final score: 4.5

Hate bagging out a local place but I’ve given these guys a number of chances over the last few years and wonder why each time. It had excellent food when the previous owners were there, pity they didn’t teach the new owners Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
