The famous dance floor that John Travolta's character, Tony Manero, struts across is modeled directly after one in The Club. John Badham, the film's director, recalls that during their search for dance venues in New York City, they found that regardless of how fancy or unusual they were, all had worn-out hardwood or even dirty concrete floors. It was then he remembered The Club in Birmingham, with its unique circular plexiglass dance floor lit from beneath by red, green, blue, and yellow bulbs. Interestingly, I had thought that Birmingham had designed their dance floor after Saturday Night Fever, but it turns out the opposite is true! The Club staff did an incredible job with Erica's baby shower! It was fantastic—flawless and absolutely stunning! Each dish was exceptional, and the staff was extremely professional. Thank you, The Club! Unfortunately, my best friend has moved away from Birmingham, and unless my stepdaughter becomes a member, I may not have the chance to enjoy your beautiful venue and delicious food again.
Over the past few months, I have been to The Club twice. One time was for a March of Dimes event and the other time (earlier this week) was for a NAACP event. Both times, the events were decorated nicely and the service from the staff was good. At the March of Dimes event, food was brought in so earlier this week was the first time I was able to try the food from this venue. I must say. I was not overly impressed by the food and neither were the other people at my table. It looked okay, but it was about a 5 or 6 on a scale from 1-10. I will say the dessert was decent, which was the only thing I finished. Another thing I noticed during my most recent visit was the top parking area for those who self-park had multiple lights, but only a few were on. It made the area quite dark and made me kind of uncomfortable. Fortunately, we were able to find more well-lit parking without much trouble. Overall, this is a nice space. I'm sure I'll be back soon for some other event.
Considering the annual dues I pay and the prices of the food, I really wish the quality was more consistent. The food is never fantastic, yet the prices suggest it's a fine dining restaurant. The staff can also vary greatly in their service. Overall, the servers lack a sense of urgency, although you might encounter an exceptional one from time to time. Apart from the pleasant ambiance and the view of downtown, there's a lot that could be improved in your experience at The Club.
I've been a member of The Club for some time now, and during that period, we've celebrated numerous joyful occasions. From my son's wedding to the 4th of July, New Year's Eve, birthdays, and both college and family reunions, it's been the perfect venue for our events. If you're in search of an event space, this is an excellent choice. The views of Birmingham from every room are breathtaking—truly stunning each time. I also enjoy simply relaxing on the patio with a drink or an appetizer.
I feel like this is a great place to go for someone of means, but at the same time I didn't view the food as any type of world class that one would expect in an exclusive club. They don't allow people outside to pay for something, this club is invite only for membership. That being said there are some really beautiful views here and the service also seems pretty good! They have multiple indoor and outdoor bar areas and they have a stage in their events area where some really famous artists have played over the years! I'd say this is a pretty cool place. If you ever find yourself getting invited out here for some drinks or an event, I would accept the invitation for sure! The cocktails and the views are the best selling points in my opinion!
