Aburiya Ibushi - Honolulu

Was very excited to try this place. The atmosphere is pretty amazing and we w were seated right at the bar to overlook the chef... food is mostly tapas style. Like appetizers... not really meals...The tofu with the pork/beef miso was the best item. Pork belly was good. Chicken thighs was under seasoned. Portobello Mushroom was nothing special. The tsukemono didn't have much flavor. Was excited to try the Hamachi Kama but was severely disappointed... we watched them cook it, but it was tough like it was over cooked... yet... it didn't seem to cook that long. Or the fish was old... they made us a grilled musubi which was good, but they made it seem like an inconvenience when we tried to order it saying the chef was busy... also ordered the Uni with Beef tongue. Uni pieces were tiny and the beef tongue was very chewy...Yuzu Sake was very yummy! More of a cocktail, but at $12.50 a glass, was pretty pricey.

We loved everything we got here! The grilled vegetables were amazing (especially the corn) and the seasonal sashimi was immaculate. We also got the beef tongue and the beef tataki and both were great. Their hiball drinks are also delicious and pleasantly affordable.They can often fill up especially on weekend nights so recommend calling beforehand for a reservation! I’ll definitely be visiting again next time I’m on the island

Very good service, however food’s a bit underwhelming. The highlight of the night was the miso tofu and yuzu sake, but unfortunately all the grilled items had a heavy burning fuel taste, tho the texture’s good. Recommend either order the tofu or the grilled eggplant as the topping in the 2 were almost identical and both base item have basically no flavor to themselves, it felt like we ate the same dish twice.
