I just heard from the news that Meg's Drive-In closed after decades of service for the community. I rushed this afternoon to get my favorite beef curry and chicken catsu mixed plate. I wasn't there in a while, so I found out that there was a charge for using credit card not debit card even 50 cents more if you want Fritten. The record dinner was just as I remembered. Krunchy chicken catsu over a small piece of cabbage, Mac salad or in my case something toss greens and beef curry, Siri and not spicy. The French fries were a bit thinner than I remember, but still delicious when they softened with the little curry sauce. Sad to hear that another dish appreciated by Hawaii's lunch places is closed. Mahalo and Aloha Meg's Drive In!
Craving chicken catsu, Yalt this place, took it home and put Kikkoman Tonkatsu sauce, another empty styrofoam in the garbage...
Kalihi has a number of local restaurants and if you are looking for an authentic local food experience at an affordable price, Meg 's it is. Two plates lunch and a drink for under $20. Daily menu plate lunch come in regular and mini and you can combine items to a mixed dish (combo). Hamburger Steak is a Winnah as they make their own patties. Open Mon-Sat 5:30 am to 8:30 pm, closed on Sundays. Hungry? Mission successful!
Got the hamburger and cutlet mixed plate. Ample reserved parking outside for guests, and lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Probably my favorite plate lunch on my trip. If you're hungry, this is going to hit the spot, guaranteed. Make sure to stop here if you're in Honolulu, you won't be disappointed.
