Formosa Chinese - Hoover

I have always loved Formosa. I've been dining there with my family since I was a child, and now as an adult, I still cherish those memories. They've been closed since last year, and I truly hope they return as our family's go-to dinner spot! The restaurant is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is consistently fresh and delicious. Honestly, it's the best Chinese restaurant in the city!

For years Formosa has been our favorite chinese cuisine restaurant. The food is ALWAYS excellent and the service has never been less than outstanding. We have been dining here for over 20 years. In fact, my husband proposed to me at Formosa on a birthday dinner date many years ago. Oh and their hot and sour soup is the best in town!

I had an exceptional experience at this restaurant. I visited with my team for a business meeting, and everything was executed perfectly. Our orders were taken quickly and arrived accurately. The place was clean and had a laid-back lunch atmosphere, making it ideal for discussions. The prices were reasonable as well. Nyoman was the best waiter I've ever encountered—he was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring we never needed to ask for refills or to have our empty plates cleared. From the moment we settled in, he was on top of everything. I'm already looking forward to returning soon!

The flavors are always wonderfully balanced, making it a delight to enjoy their fantastic table service. Takeout is also a great option in the Hoover area. Forget buffets; this place focuses solely on exceptional food at reasonable prices. As loyal customers for over 25 years, it’s a joy to witness this vibrant restaurant thriving once again under the same dedicated family.

Formosa came highly recommended by a friend and I went in with high expectations. I had the Formosa sizzling beef which I thought was okay. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken which she felt was average at best. We each had an egg roll which we felt was also very average or maybe less. Additionally, the wait staff was borderline rude. The price of the entrees was okay, I have no complaints about that. I'm not saying that Formosa was bad, it was just not what I was expecting. It was average at best. Im still looking for one good Chinese restaurant in the Birmingham area.
