It may not be the best Japanese house food I've ever had, but it certainly hits the spot, and the speed and quality of service were impressive. We definitely preferred the small plates over the larger ones. Our favorites included the karaage, spicy tuna roll, croquettes, and beef tongue. The owner was friendly and provided thorough explanations about setting up the app and the pricing. I truly love this place, and I think everyone in Houston should visit at least once!
Genji's is always a great spot to visit with friends for late-night snacks and karaoke. The agedashi tofu was tasty, although a bit soggy. The karaage, however, was just regular chicken nuggets, and I would have preferred a different sauce instead of ketchup. Unfortunately, the lemon chuhai didn't meet my expectations; if you like stronger drinks, you might enjoy it, but I found it too strong in alcohol flavor and lacking in lemon taste. On a brighter note, the curry katsu omurice was a pleasant surprise—I really enjoyed it! The curry sauce was flavorful, the tomato rice in the omelette was delightful, and the katsu was nice and crispy! I just wish it had been served piping hot. The yakitori was also good. Given how affordable everything is, I’d say it’s definitely worth trying the food here, even though you're likely to come primarily for the live karaoke experience!
I visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday, and it turned out to be a fantastic evening. Initially, I had some doubts about the food, but everything was genuinely authentic Japanese cuisine! My favorite dish was the curry cutlet; it was one of the best I’ve ever had. However, the chicken karaage didn’t quite impress me. There was also a noticeable smell when you first walked in, but I eventually got used to it. The menu offered a great variety, and I could see the owner and staff bustling around to take care of everyone. The atmosphere was lively, and the karaoke option was a lot of fun—singing and watching others made for a great experience. The songbook had been recently updated, so there were tons of choices. I’ll definitely be coming back with a big group of friends!
The food was super good and super cheap! One roll was about 6 dollars (it was kind of small) and the fries were sooo crispy and flavorful. The calamari wasn't as good as the french fries but still pretty good. The cheesecake was light and fluffy (not the super dense type). Would definitely recommend with friends because the workers were nice and the food was good!
I always have such a good time at genjis!!!!! They get pretty packed on the weekends but after a few sake bombs u don't even notice the wait time!! the karaoke rooms are very fairly priced and they have delicious food. I've been here soooo many times and I've never had any bad experiences. We love u mr genji!!!!
