Inside the large Compass Rose building. Latte was good. Husband's blueberry muffin was unexpectedly warmed up and it was very good. As you can see, there is a very nice outside area with an interesting arrangement to enjoy while drinking coffee. And a very pleasant employee. And a park across the street. And other shops. Just a nice place to drive to for a change of pace.
The atmosphere here is great. It's very cozy inside, not too loud and the coffee is pretty good. The baristas were polite and friendly. Seems like a great place to settle in and enjoy a coffee.
I?m really disappointed to have to write this review. I used to frequent First Lift pretty regularly. We moved to the area in October of 2021 and I was sad to leave behind a favorite, locally owned coffee shop and equally as delighted to find First Lift. I?d come with my kids, grab coffee and a treat and walk to the library or the park. However, last time I was there I brought a friend who had never been before. She met me there with her two small kids and we were enjoyingsome treats in the lounge area before heading to the library. We were keeping a close on the kids, as we always do, making sure they knew not to touch any of the nice decor. A woman sitting there who apparently worked there decided to tellmy friend ?Be careful with your kids. If they break anything, they won?t be welcome here.? Word for word. I approached her and asked her to explain and she then told me that we were giving the impression that we had no control of our kidsand therefore no respect for the facility. I was shocked. I always tip, I like bringing new people there, and it was becoming a favorite little outing of mine with my kids, but I?ve rarely been so shocked or offended. I very much respectthe store and would never allow my kids to disrespect it intentionally. Unfortunately, what appears to be a locally owned, family friend coffee shop (attached to a hotel that I assume kids stay at as well?? is just a place to have antiqueson display. Their priorities seem a bit out of place. I will no longer be giving my money to them.
We are local to Huntsville and appreciate doing business locally. First Lift is a great place for coffee and snacks. Coffee is excellent. Pastries and sandwiches as well. So why 2 stars... well, because the hours are so random and inconsistent. Been quite a few times that we have stopped by in the afternoon for a coffee to find they are closed. Or a sign on the door that says they are closed for a private event, but no one is inside. Would love to patronize thisplace more, but we end up heading over to Mad Moose most of the time because at least we know they are open. If First lift could maintain normal coffee shop business hours, 6am to 6-7pm we would be happy to swing by a few times a week. Anda lot of others would as well, coffee just isn't for mornings. And you cant make money if you aren't open.
