Shagga offers consistently great food!! why drive all the way into DC and pay for parking when Shagga is right in your local neighborhood!!
Beautiful vegetarian platter and the waiter was very nice. I would recommend this place for dinner instead of lunch. They don't have a lunch menu and food doesn't come out super quickly. If you have time for a leisurely lunch it's nice because it's not crowded, but definitely don't come here if you're in a hurry.
I always get the Veggie combo, which is also vegan. General portioning means that I have a meal the next day.
If you like Ethiopian food, this is a great choice for vegans. The dishes are labeled as vegetarian, but just ask, and you can be sure they are vegan. I am a fan of anything that can be used to eat with injera. The shiro wat is my favorite protein, but I always eat the gomen (Collard greens) first, because I'm such a fan of tasty vegan collard greens! If you're not sure what to get, get the combination. Warning for those who haven't had it before: don't eat a lot of injera with a little bit of food. Be generous in scooping the food with the injera. Don't get me wrong, I can eat the injera plain, but if this is a novitiate for your Ethiopian dining, be warned you'll fill up so quickly if you eat too much injera. They are very generous here with the injera, so don't just eat injera. The veggies are so good! Try as many as you can or share a platter with your dining partner(s)! The kik alicha and string beans and tikil gomen are also delightful! Yum. I need to go there right now!
