We came here earlier before covid finished our visit to aljezur. it was a fantastic place, first-class eating and beautiful staff. we returned in 2022 and unfortunately gulli is not the place where it was earlier. the red wine was served chilled, we had to sit outside and the music was too loud and annoying. when the food arrived was presented very well, but was not warm enough and was over-heared for what we were served. I had the faggot that was not very hot and went very quickly cold as the plates were not warm. it was served with what I can only describe as cold potato skins. my wife had a pasta that was served with two dirty looking garnels. our order was two main thing, two glasses wein and a small bottle of water. that came to 50 €. much too expensive.
We came at an odd hour and they could "only" offer us pizza...and a salad. The pizzas we ordered are awesome, very fine crust and full of flavour. The salad was simple but very fresh and full of taste. We regret not being able to have gone there at a normal lunch or dinner hour because it appears that they must have some amazing food.Service was very nice and quick, the decoration is really nice, both inside and outside. Even though the hour was odd there were more people enjoying the pizzas and just for that the place is worth it.Modestly priced for such quality and service.
Well I don't know who pulled some person's chain, but there's nothing Gulli-ble about enjoying Gulli's restaurant and food! This is my second review and my third visit and I have to say, it's even better than the previous two occasions. We went there for my daughter's birthday lunch and we enjoyed every minute, every last Moresel and really appreciated the care and the time that the chef and the staff put into the experience on what was a very hot day. The food was delicious the who,e way through. All the meats were wonderful, succulent and lovingly prepared. I had the filet mignon with tagliatelle and the tastes were wonderful. The starters were beautifully cooked and presented and desserts were sumptuous and amazing value. The home made lemonade was exquisite , in huge glasses and perfection for a hot day. The staff worked very hard in the busy restaturant in the heat and were always polite, although occasionally it is hard to catch their eye. I love Gullis, I'm grateful it's here in the Algarve , I appreciate what they do and LONG may it continue. Why some people have so many negative things to say, I've no idea, they must be living in an alternative reality I'm not part of.
Gulli is yet another case of how this "TripAdvisor Number 1" status seems to be a "license to gyp" without even a blush. From the moment you arrive at the place, having braved the insane local traffic as you cross the main road that leads to this secluded locale, you sense that something is amiss. Prospective patrons are dismissed haughtily upon arrival and obliged to huddle next to the Big Reservation Book until someone finds the time to stroll over and check their booking, without which you can forget fulfulling your dream of getting served here. Once you are pointed in the general direction of your table and you take possession of it, you need to be aggressive if you want to be welcomed to the place by one of the employees and manage to place your order. In our case, after being ignored by the flustered, patently inexperienced waiters for 15 minutes, we succeeded in drawing the attention of a tall, thin, rather unpleasant lady who spared some time to attend us.The menu looked quite appealing and we ordered a variety of dishes that unfortunately turned out to be a parody of what they would be in a decent, less assuming kind of restaurant: a beef carpaccio served in a single tasteless slice on the edge of a dish; the Perfumo Mar concoction in an old, chipped plate; a variant on tataki that was the only decent dish we tasted; and a Bistrot pizza which, as the photo shows, was an absolute ripoff with its scarce ingredients and 3" crusts (the tall, thin lady explained that this is how they make them here, in spite of proof to the contrary in other photos on this site). We were only too happy to see on the check that the "Pode sair" blessing was free! After undergoing this evening-ruining experience and later reading the rude, spiteful responses to customer reviews from the individual who represents this joint, I have to conclude that the eyeball-rolling, frenzied rave reviews laid into Gulli proceed from friends, relatives, media agencies and the inevitable "gullibles" who are fooled into making this place a Number 1... it says very little about their capacity to discern and assess correctly, unless their benchmarks are their local fish & chip dives back on the Isle.
