We went to the restaurnt with high hopes of a good experience having heard of fine holiday meal there. At first, we were not disappointed. The dining room is charming, and our first course--a meat broth--was excellent. But the main dishes (one of pork, one of game) were both drowned in an identical brown sauce that turned the meal into cafetaria food. While the meat in each case was of good quality, all the side dishes seemed tired and lifeless. Such inventive touches as the meal had amounted to no more than a pile of melted cheese on the pork--a weird choice. The service, if not bad, was indifferent. They seemed not to care whetherwe were there or not. Our impression was that the head chief was off for the day and that nobody with anyreal responsibility was in charge . We redeemed the day by heading down the street to a wonderful chocolate shop.
