Really impressive restaurant diverse menu, fresh produce, great food quality and presentation, beautiful views, friendly service and an extensive wine list. Glad to see they’re talking social distancing seriously. Only things that could’ve been improved: the service was okay, but just a bit average. Felt a bit weird pouring your own wine when you’re paying those premium prices. Oh, and the dessert I chose was lovely but there was a choice of only three options which was surprising.
Wine list is pretty good, food is pretty good overall and cocktails are excellent. Breakfast was delicious, order from the prescribed menu though... as the sides are exorbitantly priced at $10 each for a smidge of mushrooms or even a spot of spinach which seems really bizarre. Lunch was lovely, my companions ordered very well and enjoyed their meals very much. For me, my burger was cooked until grey and crumbling but generally the composition of the meals were very good. I would give the burger a 2/5 but everything else is quite fab. Martinis are 9.5/10! Desserts were really delicious, a bit on the Maggie Beer savoury desserts spectrum which was delightful. Service is professional and accommodating and the atmosphere/view was also lovely.
We dined at Grain of the Silos for breakfast dinner, and had quite opposite experiences. The 4/5 rating is for dinner only. Their food was sourced locally and creatively cooked. Love love their jerusalem artichoke and Guinea fowl cooked in 3 ways. Their entrees/starters were okay, nothing exceptional in taste but were beautifully presented. I preferred the desserts at Bluestone bar Kitchen but I'm not a dessert person anyway. I'd recommend to book ahead as they were quite busy even on a Sunday night. Great value if you're an Accor plus member. Being so impressed with their dinner, we came back for brekky on our last day in Launnie. The breads in the croque madame were badly burned and the whole dish was very salty. The coconut chia pudding was very filling but unnecessarily sprinkled with too much sugar. Could have been an excellent dish with honey on the side for guests to adjust to their own taste. The yoghurt in their fruit yoghurt tasted just bleh, can't tell what style of yoghurt it was not Greek nor normal yoghurt. The only dishes they did well, sadly, were the 2 veggies sides we ordered. Would recommend to go for dinner only.
Was very eager to try this establishment after hearing so much about it, and I was rather underwhelmed. Entree was reasonably good, the main not spectacular a dining companion had what appeared to be an appalling cook of a very expensive steak, and my companion expressed discontent at the offering after trying it. The desert was fun and delicious, but that may have been the wine talking by then. The crackers and bread to go with the tiny serve of cheeses were about as close as one could get to going out of date product from the local supermarket. The side of baked spuds were the highlight of the meal. As indicated earlier, good wine list though. Decent range. Could order cocktails from the bar to the dining table, sadly my order was one step up from shockingly bad. Seemed to be only one member of floor staff who was switched on at all, and they appeared to have their hands busy picking up the slack from everyone else so I always felt a little unfair when I managed to grab their attention. For the prices involved and the reputation, rather underwhelmed. Not overly eager to go back and see if it were just a random poor night, distinct feeling it wasn't. I'm sure I will at some stage, just can't see myself making the trip from the other end of the state again to specifically give it a go. Caveat emptor, etc., I guess.
