El Banditos - Iowa City

I had the pleasure of trying some of the most delicious Mexican dishes I've ever encountered in the country. The Conchinta Pibil features Mayan-spiced pork shoulder marinated in achiote, sour orange, and spices, all wrapped in banana leaves. The Lamb Barbacoa tacos, Shrimp tacos, and Ribeye tacos were also fantastic. To top it off, the Grateful Dead playing in the dining room, with autographed concert posters decorating the walls and original local art enhancing the atmosphere, made for a truly delightful experience for any food lover.

This restaurant offers fantastic gluten-free and vegan options, along with a wonderful staff and delicious food. It's truly a gem in Iowa City. I highly recommend trying the spicy margarita and the Pechugas de Poblanos. The dish features tender strips of chicken breast sautéed with poblano peppers and onions in a poblano cream, all topped with a blend of three white cheeses. Don't forget to ask for corn tortillas on the side—it's simply amazing!

I love their hibiscus margaritas! Had only been there for Taco Tuesday deals prior to this visit. For that they have a salsa bar which is fun and different. Tonight I tried the carnitas bowl and it was delicious!! Very generous portion of marinated pork and the side of potatoes were done in a way I've never had before. Everything was delicious and our orders came out really quickly. They even split the cost of the pitcher of margaritas between the 3 of us without us asking. Would definitely go again. A fresh take on Mexican that's worth trying.

The food here is always exceptional! I highly recommend trying the queso—it's the best you'll ever taste! Also, don't miss out on the mushroom taco.

I ordered a burrito and let me tell you, it was great! The meat(chicken) was cooked just right and the veggies and salsa inside the burrito was a nice touch to boost the flavor and add a hint of spice. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. One of the best Mexican Restaurants in the area. Would recommend!
