I am unfortunately unable to review either the food or service because I never received either. I have called 4 times trying to place an order and each time, my call has gone to the voicemail.
I recently visited Mama Lido's on Bethel Road while in the area with a group of friends. We visited the restaurant on the recommendation of a friend in the group who claimed he had grabbed a slice there a couple of months before. While we were looking for a quick bite, we decided to sit in the dining room and order from the menu. The atmosphere of the dining room was best described as bizarre. The room was completely devoid of customers, the menu was printed on bent card-stock, a table in the back was covered in paperwork and an open laptop, and worst of all, there was a speaker system set up playing loud country music....in an Italian Restaurant. Our server came over and while nice enough at first, decided to wipe the sweat from her brow with her forearm (this is the moment when we should have left). We ordered and asked specific questions about our choices since we had never been there. The server awkwardly put in our choices on her iPhone and left. Our food took longer than expected to come out, which was easily accepted in anticipation for the quality Italian food we were craving. Of the three orders, only one was correct. The first order (a cheese pizza), came out of the kitchen as a supreme and the calzone (ordered specifically with breaded chicken and Alfredo only) included onions and other items. The server took back the calzone and fifteen minutes later returned with a remade dish considerably smaller than the original one. Eventually our server returned with our checks, two of which were incorrect as they were charged nearly double the menu price. The server blamed the discrepancy on the application on her iPhone and offered a 10% discount as amends for the confusion. We said no to the pitiful offer and she withdrew into the back to call the owner for an override on the price. We were appalled there was any question about the dispute. The restaurant offered a buffet offering all you can eat calzones and salad bar for just $9.95, the same price as the single calzone ordered! When the server returned with new checks at the corrected price, we waited another ten minutes just to get our cards back and leave! Finally we all left, leaving only a $1.00 tip each out of etiquette, not out of merit. In all, we wasted two hours of our day on mediocre Italian food and despicable customer service. Lido's needs to evaluate the quality of people they hire. While the food had potential, the atmosphere needs a makeover and the staff need severe training in customer service.
I've been going to Lido's for years. It all started with me trying to explore pizza options outside of national chain brands. I've never eat inside the restaurant so I cannot speak on behalf of the service, but the food has always been great! If you're into sweeter pizza sauces, their house sauce is the perfect blend! Very subtle sweetness to match the tomato's acidity. I no longer live close to the eatery but when I'm nearby, I do what I can to place an order for a pie! I read some reviews with negative experiences...if I ever did have one, its always been addressed properly. This is a great pizza place with great flavor. If you live around the area, I definitely recommend it!
Please be aware the prices online are not valid for anything I checked. When I advised them of this they were rude and unresponsive. The pizza was very bad. It was the second cheese pizza they made since the first one was not good either per the clerk. This will be my third bad experience and feel sad because we used to love this place before. :O(
