We kicked things off with cocktails, which naturally took some time to arrive given the number of us, but when they did, two drinks were missing. For appetizers, we ordered three plates of fries but ended up with five, for reasons unknown. The missing items persisted into our main course. We ordered two fried fish dinners with no fennel, but after waiting over ten minutes, not only did the meals not arrive, but our waitress also failed to check on us. Someone from our party had to get her attention. When she returned from the kitchen, she mentioned that the fish would be out in about four minutes, implying that our order had likely never been placed. Instead, it took closer to ten minutes for the dishes to finally arrive, and one of them had fennel on it. The manager brought out the last two dishes and sincerely apologized for the mix-up. He offered us a round of drinks, which was appreciated, but we chose to have our meals comped instead of ordering more drinks or desserts. I believe the manager was genuine in his remorse, and I truly hope our experience was an exception, as I would like to see The Crest improve its service.
I've been eager to try The Crest for quite some time, and I'm really glad I finally did. The interior was much more spacious than I had expected and is beautifully decorated. There is a small parking lot, but if it's crowded, you might need to park on the street, which is free! They offer a happy hour from 4 to 6 PM featuring discounts on appetizers, drinks, and sandwiches. We ordered the slaw dogs, goat cheese balls, and Reuben, along with some mocktails. Let me tell you, the Reuben was absolutely delicious. If you order anything, I highly recommend that! It comes with a side salad, which perfectly balances out the richness of the Reuben. The service was excellent as well!
I want to highlight two standout dishes: the Pierogi and the BBQ lamb rack. Both were unique, perfectly cooked, delicious, and visually appealing. Well done! The restrooms were clean, which I appreciate. However, parking was a bit tricky. The lot is on the smaller side and was full, but we managed to find a spot on Indianola. Just a heads up, the side streets require a permit for parking.
What an absolutely wonderful dinner and evening out! We had such a nice time rediscovereing The Crest Gastropub as we haven't dinner here since late 2018. I ordered the delicious Goat Cheese Balls. The blackberry jam and honey were perfect with them and was really surprised with the lemon curd. It took it to the next level for me. I also ordered a Crest Burger and potato's. The potatoes had just the right amount of fried crunchy too. With the burger, the burger blend, the pickles, and the bun the whole meal really stood out. Special thank you to Molly our server. She was super cool and took great care of my partner and I. The menu is impressive but honestly only found a few items that really appealed to me but I made the right choices.
They have plenty of seating options and I love the covered patio seating outside, especially with a slight breeze from the early fall weather. And you can smell some of the herb that they planted around the patio. The vibe is very chill and comfy. My first experience with Appalachian cuisine and it is amazing. The server is very friendly and attentive. Sweet Corn Dip The dip is very rich and creamy. It have the sweet corn chow-chow and the sweet pepper relish, which add a hint of sweet and sour flavor to the dip. Fire Roasted Chicken I love this dish. It is super juicy and the skin a extremely crispy.
