We stayed 3 days on Isla Mujeres and ate in alot of places. We noticed this little place on a side street and decided to try it, eventhough the entire menu posted outside the restaurant was in spanish, which we have limited understanding. It looked like a place where locals would eat. It is small, maybe only 8-9 tables and nothing fancy. The food however, was to rave about. They have Poc-chuc. Try it. The food seemed like it was home cooked by your mother. The man in attendance, I presume the owner was attentive to my needs. I ordered a glass of wine and I watched him actually leave the building and go and get a bottle of red and wine for me to choose. The place is delightfully decorated in local style. Colorful. I think the appearance probably scares alot of tourist, who are more interested in the busier, more tourist inviting atmospheres but you are missing out if you do not stop here. It was the best meal I had during those 3 days and it was the best price. As we were leaving, there were a group of younger tourist looking it over with skeptical eyes. We told them it was good and on our word they came in to try it. They mentioned that the price was what brought them in. As we all know, budget came be a factor while on traveling. I have noticed while traveling in the Yucatan that the best places seem to be the ones off the main street no matter what town you are in. So get off that main street and find your adventure.
