Been coming to The Grove for years, for the food and sunny spot to enjoy it in. But the last few visits have been increasingly disappointing, perhaps due to how busy they are and that the staff seem overworked and overwhelmed. The energy there has just felt tense, but this weekend, the food was also bad. I tried the special, eggs benedict with asparagus, goat cheese, peas. Total flop; my dish didn't have goat cheese on it, and there were maybe two spears of asparagus and 4 total peas sliced thinly and spread around like a garnish rather than an intentional component. The hollandaise was runny, and the eggs were undercooked, which then when I cut into them made the whole dish even runnier; the side salad didn't have any salad dressing on it; and the dominant part of the experience was a soggy english muffin that I ironically still had to put way more effort than it was worth into cutting through because it was so dense and under toasted.I would have loved to let the staff know about my experience in real time, but after trying to get someone's attention for several minutes I gave up and gave the rest of my dish to my friend.
Judging by the long lines that form inside (and sometimes outside) The Grove Cafe Market, you would be correct in assuming this is one of ABQ’s most popular diners, especially on weekends. Arrive early, or you may be in for a long wait. But it is so worth it! I have been many times since 2013, after it made several appearances in the final season of Breaking Bad. Specifically, it showed in S5Ep8 (Gliding Over All), S5Ep15 (Granite State), and S5Ep16 (Felina), but is best known for the last episode scene in which a ragged Walter puts ricin-based Stevia in Lydia’s tea. You can find the two-top table easily, especially if you have reviewed the episode prior to dining here. Go ahead. Stage your own photo re-creations, because you know you want to!But back to food.I ordered the Sweet Potato Hash, and modified it a bit to make it vegan by eliminating the egg and feta. It was absolutely delicious, and the tomatillo salsa is so amazing that I could drink it by itself. I ordered an English Muffin as a side. My friend ordered the Classic Egg Breakfast, which he ordered to be delivered with scrambled eggs, kale salad, sausage, and sourdough toast. He too was perfectly satisfied. The grove is one of several breakfast regulars for me when I am in ABQ, and always will be. As a note to plant-based fans, you’ll have to make some mods, but they’re always happy to accommodate however they can. Kudos for that! Vegetarian options: Plant-based diners can eat here, but more than likely you will have to request some small mods. They always accommodate me.
Very cozy for a brunch in the morning. The food was very delicious and looked amazing. We went there two days in a row. Delicious! There is also provided free water with lemons. Self serving but that’s perfectly fine! Ice cold water!
Very cute casual breakfast spot. I got the fancy breakfast sandwich and a key lime cupcake, it was all so good!
