Anchor Inn Ugborough - Ivybridge

Park in the square rather than pub as more room. Service from start to finish was great and warm and friendly. Menu online wasn't same as in pub but they said it will be updated asap, good range of drinks. I had the steak and chorizo burger, the fries were amazing and the burger sauce was great and lots of mustard in it. Burger was also very tasty but I shouldve asked for cheese aswell as just needed a bit more flavour. Cheese board for afters was delicious with smoked apple wood, extra mature cheddar and stilton and crackers. Haven't been in about 8 yrs and was still a great evening as previous. Fantastic! Happened across this little gem on Easter Sunday. The landlord and waitress were extremely friendly and helpful. We ordered the Sunday lunch, which was really tasty and generous in size. They even went out of their way to specially prepare a vegan dessert for my wife, as we booked our table a few hours in advance. Fantastic little place with lots of old charm which also has a cosy open fireplace. Food drinks: Brilliant! Service: 5

Our room was warm and comfortable, though it required navigating some stairs to reach the bathroom, which is something to keep in mind. The cleanliness was decent, but I did notice some cobwebs in the corner. The decor had a rustic feel, but I mean that in a negative way—there was a poorly fitting homemade cover over the electrical fittings that was also badly painted. I didn’t dare touch the electricals, which gives you an idea of the overall condition. The room lacked polish and style, as it felt like it had been hastily put together with a "that'll do" attitude. On the positive side, the pebble floor in the bathroom, complete with underfloor heating, was a nice touch. The food was okay; we had dined here before, but opted to eat out this time. Breakfast was good, although the dining area felt cold and quite dismal. The staff were lovely, helpful, and pleasant. Overall, it's a standard place to stay—nothing about it really makes it stand out.

I experienced a lack of hot water for three days, even after reporting the issue. The water turned freezing cold very quickly. While they did refund our meal as compensation, the problem was never fixed. The breakfast was nice and the bar staff were friendly, but it was disappointing that they didn’t inform guests about the ongoing issues with their boiler. First of all, we may not be the only ones who were confused while looking for hotels in Ivybridge, as the Anchor is actually located in Ugborough, not Ivybridge! However, it is a welcoming and cozy pub with nice rooms above. The accommodations are clean and comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were enjoyable. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 4
