Both dishes were delicious, but my only critique is that the brisket came without any sauce at all. The fries, however, were perfectly cooked and delicious. The drinks were good, though my friend had to order three different drinks before finally getting what he wanted, as their selection wasn't extensive. The food and drinks arrived in a timely manner, but unfortunately, our waitress wasn’t the best. I understand that being a server can be challenging, especially in a busy setting, but when we asked her about suggestions or the most popular items, she seemed a bit annoyed by the inquiry. She also disappeared for a while between drinks and after dinner, which we noticed as we were looking for more beverages. Additionally, the music was extremely loud, making it feel more like a club than a restaurant. If I could give this place 3.5 stars based on our initial experience, I would, but I'm willing to try it again on a less busy day. Overall, our experience was quite decent. The restaurant has a very unique style, and I love places with interesting decor and a good ambience.
The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is fantastic. The service is impeccable. The only downside is the parking situation in Jersey City. However, I love this place so much that I'm willing to deal with the parking challenges. The drinks are amazing too!
We started with guacamole and chips, as well as mac and cheese, paired with cocktails (I had the Midnight Mojito while she chose the apple cider mimosa). The Midnight Mojito was a bit too bitter for my liking, but her drink was fantastic, so we ordered more for the afternoon. The guacamole was good, but the mac and cheese didn’t impress. Although it was creamy, it started to taste like Velveeta, and some parts were even burnt from being torched. After finishing our appetizers, it took a while for our waiter to return to take our orders. Since brunch ended at 3 PM, we placed our orders at 2:55 PM. I decided to try the breakfast chimichanga, and while it looked appealing, it turned out to be very dry and bland. I added some hot sauce, which helped a bit, but the salad dressing that accompanied the green salad was unappetizing. Honestly, the mimosas and guacamole were the highlights for me. I felt like I spent too much on mediocre food, so I'm not sure if I would give it another shot outside of brunch hours or commit to a full dinner experience.
We stopped south house the other day to meet some family members for a drink. Unfortunately, the bar was full, so we asked if we could get a table for drinks only. We were told that we had to order at least one appetizer or dessert we agreed to. We received a spacious table in the front dining area, offering first-class views to everyone when they came to the restaurant. Our server was very sweet and perhaps too polite, as he apologized for everything, even something that is necessary to take over our order. He said good, so we were fine with his extra courtesy. From a menu I started with the pumpkin spice Mule, which contained Tito 's Vodka, pumpkin 5-spice mixture, lime, incubator and comminuted cinnamon. The drink came in the suitable copper cup with a smoking cinnamon stick poking from the top. The cocktail was great, but could have used more of the pumpkin spice mix as I really could not recognize his presence. I also had a tequila and soda, one of their happy hour options that was good, but standard. In addition, I took a sip from my friend 's Purple Haze, the jalapeno-infused Espolon Reposado Tequila, Chambord, blackberry, raspberry, lime and agaven nectar. He loved it, but I thought it tasted like sharp cough syrup. It was really very sweet and syrup. To meet the food requirement for the table, we ordered the Guacamole and Pico De Gallo with chips. Although we had expected two separate dives, we received a unique small bowl of the mashed avocado with the cubed tomatoes and onions. However, by placing the two dives as one, it probably helped the taste as we found the guacamole well seasoned and delicious. The accompanying tortilla chips were perfectly salted, thin and crispy. Once again I enjoyed my time at the South House and would recommend it for drinks and/or food as well as for couples or groups.
The decor of this place is really cool. Awesome entryway. The food was slightly disappointing. The fried chicken was flavorless. Needed salt badly. The ribs were dry. All the food came out luke warm at best. I will give this place another try and just try some different items.
