This place is just across the street from Damascus Gate...where people can get a meal for a proper price rather than tourist rates. Al Ayed had a very friendly staff, delicious food (I had the hummus, mixed grill (chicken, lamb, beef), and mint tea). It ranks at the top, especially the hummus. Many locals here argue that it's the best in Jerusalem, and I'm apt to agree. My waiter was so friendly, patient, and wonderful. He took the time to answer my questions, make suggestions, and explain anything that confused me. He also checked up on me to make sure everything tasted okay, which is unusual while abroad. If you visit, please be sure to tip them similarly as the US when you are at a sit down place. I also noticed that they accept US Dollars, so you can go here if you haven't been able to exchange money yet. Of course, ask before ordering! Things can always change. Overall, this has been my best food experience while in Jerusalem.
One of the best place to try local meals in Jerusalem. Tasty food with affordable prices.
Is many options good or bad? We wanted a meal, and the place was recommended. We were 11 people, and chose about 5 different menu items. The kebab was some of the best, perhaps in the entire nation, but the chicken that some other people had didnt taste like chicken, so choose wisely, and play it safe.
I really enjoyed my time in Jerusalem and this was my favorite place to eat. I loved the dips that came with the meal. Been craving it since I returned to the US. Wish I knew the name of all the dips.
