The concierge clyde in our hotel phoneed ahead to check that they were still open and then got us a taxi that dropped us at the end of the track for this place. as in the photo there is a sign in English speaking say vegetarian.' the menu has English names, but not say whether something contains ice, milk or honey and not speak mandarin we could not ask. we ate both nights and it was both busy. in the first night I was not blown away from what we had, but we made our decisions when it was close. we had some sesame noodles that were nice, nothing special, the early roll were delicious (they both nighted), the tofu with mushrooms was old tofu, it has a completely different taste when they are used to regular tofu, I am not a fan. the tempeh with paprika and bitter melone was pretty and something else. in the second night we ordered the mixed brown rice with nuts and cherry, sweet and sour pork, which was good and spicy kartoffels, which were really delicious with exactly the right level of heat, since neither of us have a high tolerance to season. we had the pumpkin wafer rolls that were sweet and tasty, even better cold the next day with the burrito on the train home. the personal was friendly, the place was clean and I asked the girl if they had a second location, she said that no is the only one, so not sure that this other listing.
The reviews are quite old, but I am pleased to report that this restaurant is still open. it's not hard to find when they find the road! it is not in the third floor of a building, it is directly on the road. the price is also of what the first review says (we paid between 100 yuan to 140 yuan per meal for two.) eating is good, sometimes miss the dishes, but often are very good! the personal is nice, but English is not easy. they have an English menu and a Chinese with pictures. updated from previous review to 2017-10-28
This small, but wonderful, small restaurant is a bit hard to find, but worth the effort. eating was great and the staff was friendly.
Really good vegetarian Restaurant! By now it has two locations. One in an old hutong (this is the one listed above) and a new one in a shopping district on Xianxi Alley not far from it. The telephone numbers are: 0531 86090415 0531 86080413 respectively. I've only been to the newer one, which is hard to find, since its very hidden on the 3rd floor of this shopping district but it is totally worth trying to find it. The dishes are inexpensive (20-60Kuai) and really good! Their main dish is a sichuan style vegetable mix (Potatos, mushrooms, peppers, doufu, beans) which easly can be shared by 4 people. Other good dishes are the veggie dumplings and fried rosepedals. The staff is super friendly and they even have a roof terrace which is amazing in summer. The place became pretty popular lately so phoning ahead is always a good idea.
