For dessert, we indulged in fried cheesecake and fried ice cream, which were both delightful treats. The decor at Nippon is traditionally styled, and they even offer floor seating. Overall, it was a fantastic experience!
Now, about the food— it was quite underwhelming. I ordered the filet and shrimp hibachi (not the 'show' style) which came with soup. The soup was actually quite good, but the shrimp was a different story. It was overcooked, small—about the size of large cashews—and lacked any seasoning, so the flavor was nonexistent. The filet was cooked well and tasted decent, but the rice and vegetables were just as bland. I suspect the cooking technique was to blame; during our visit, I watched a hibachi performance where they didn’t use butter or garlic like most other places do. My partner ordered a few sushi rolls, one hand roll, and two pieces of sashimi, including a salmon skin roll. Unfortunately, the salmon skin roll was not crispy as it should have been and had little flavor. One of the rolls was so large that it became difficult to eat. Overall, he thought the rolls were subpar and wouldn’t recommend the sushi, as it didn't taste like it was made with quality ingredients. On a side note, we requested 'a lot' of spicy mayo and received only about two tablespoons, which was insufficient for my partner, who typically needs more for just three pieces. We asked for additional sauce, but the waitress returned with the same small amount and explained that the sushi chef was busy because of the crowd. Seriously? You should have ample spicy mayo on hand to share freely, but clearly that’s not the case here. After using a restaurant.com coupon, our bill came to $70, which included an 18% standard gratuity. We had the hibachi for $23, two full rolls, one hand roll, two pieces of sashimi, a large sake, and two beers. That feels a bit steep for the quality of food and inconsistent service we experienced. I recommend staying away from this place—it's simply not worth your time or money.
We have been visiting this restaurant for a year now, and it consistently impresses us. The service is always top-notch, with a knowledgeable staff. Their sake selection is excellent. Overall, it's a definite home run!
I ordered the birthday roll, which had tempura on the inside and eel on the outside. The tempura was crispy, and the eel tasted fresh. However, my salmon skin hand roll was disappointing; the salmon was just okay and it fell apart as I tried to eat it. On the other hand, the hamachi hand roll held together much better, but the freshness and quality of the fish were average. Overall, it was what I would expect from a Japanese restaurant in Jupiter, FL.
After the unfortunate closure of our previous favorite, Sushi King, my wife and I were eager to find a new spot. We believe we may have found it at Nippon. The menu is intriguing, and the portions are quite generous. The service is outstanding and exceptionally friendly. We will definitely return!
