Better than Crab House. Bigger space. Better crab. Worse for parking unless you valet. Went around 12:30pm on a Saturday and there was no line. We ordered the combo B (S) which had the Spicy Seafood Stew Soy Sauce Marinated Crab Spicy Marinated Crab Kimchi Pancake for 3 people. If your group of 3 is really hungry I recommend ordering more rice to mix with the marinated crabs and stew or size up to (M). Spicy Seafood Stew: not too spicy and the broth was very refreshing: perfect for a hangover. Soy Sauce Marinated Crab: crab tasted fresh and well-marinated. I don't like this dish to be on the saltier side but if you do check out Crab House. Spicy Marinated Crab: it's SPICY but delicious. be careful not to choke on the chili peppers. Kimchi Pancake: don't let the sad, plain looking kimchi jeon fool you. it may not be crispy but in terms of flavor alone the batter was well-seasoned and the kimchi was on point. Special shout-out for having purple rice and the banchan was fire! My mom always says that you know a Korean restaurant is good if their banchan is good. Facts. Next time I'm definitely going to order a size up, add sujebi to the seafood stew, and make my own bibimbap with the banchan and raw crab.
This is a hole in the wall, no-nonsense type of Korean restaurant and they really perfected their craft. I consider myself a gejang specialist and I've been to the best of the best in Seoul, LA, New York and New Jersey, and I think this place is the best in the US! The crabs are from Korea (I asked the owner) and imported in. The marinade flavor is a perfect blend of herbs and brine and is not salty like other places. It's really spectacular. The soup is really good too and starts off a little mild and bland but as it cooks down it becomes perfect. As for price (maybe I'm biased because everything is high priced in NYC) I thought this was well priced and reflective of the quality, craft and flavor, especially knowing the crabs are from Korea. I wish they had this place in the east coast.
I love Crab House and always go there for my raw crab, uni roe fix but decided to give Rich Crab a try and was not disappointed.Their soy marinade was a ever so slightly more rich in flavor and their 양염 게장 or spicy marinated crab was the perfect level of sweet with a little kick, but mild in hotness. I would have liked a little more heat but for those seeking out a less pain inducing dish, look no further. Each combo comes with 2 꽃게 aka raw South Korean blue crab. One is marinated in soy broth, and the other is spicy marinated. Both quite the delicacy but the roe in the soy marinated tastes amazing and is my fav! The crabs are quite fresh and the umami flavor is amazing. The only difference with the combos is the option for either crab stew, seafood stew, or spicy seafood stir fry (no broth). All come with one thin kimchi pancake and a medley of banchan aka side dishes. We ordered the small (S) combo A 1 extra soy marinated 꽃게 crab a la carte and it was perfect for 2 people (we eat a little more than the avg person, so you might be ok with just ordering the combo by itself). Each addt'l crab is $40 so it's a bit pricey and no discounts are offered for mult crabs. The owner also mentioned the crab that comes with the combo offers a bit more roe but we found both to have a good amount.Valet parking only in the evening Thurs Sun. I've seen valet start during the day sometimes on the weekends but was inconsistent for me. There is meter parking on 3rd St but those spots fill up quickly during peak hours.Located in the old Jinsol Gukbap 진솔국밥 spot.
Drove all the way to just try these infamous Korean raw crabs because I've been watching way too much Kdramas and honestly it was the best experience ever. I brought Benadryl with me just in case I get a reaction from raw seafood but I did not even need it. The crab was so flavorful and not fishy at all! You still can taste the umami in it but the delicacy of the crab meat literally just melts in your mouth. The service was quick, my family and I got seated right when we walked in. It wasn't as busy as I had thought but glad they tended to us so quickly. The restaurant is super quiet and feels like you're eating at a mom and pop shop. A little glimpse of Korea with some ajummas eating their food and gossiping away. Now back to the food...the raw crab is a little expensive at $40 per crab. There isn't any deal or special if you buy 2-3 crabs. We also got their beef stew which only came with 4 thinly slices of beef and then filled with bean sprouts. The broth was clear and not as flavorful as we anticipated. We also tried their pork belly lettuce wrap, small portion roughly $40. The raw crabs was a major hit!
