It turned out to be a fun and delicious experience! The meal included all the necessary ingredients; all I had to do was heat up the broth and add everything in.
When we finally got our food, I discovered a small black hair in my soup, even though my hair is blonde. I thought to myself, "Okay, it's a rough night for them," and while it was off-putting, I didn't want to complain because I felt sympathetic. Then, the server informed us that since we spent over $50, we could pick a card for a prize – money, dessert, etc. My sister selected a card, but when she opened it, the server quickly told her she wasn't supposed to do that. After taping it up, the server returned to say we couldn't have another one because of the rules. It was clear she was at fault for not explaining this beforehand. I spoke to the manager, and while he acknowledged the server’s mistake, he explained that the owners strictly enforced their rules and there was nothing he could do to rectify the situation. He mentioned he would contact the general manager. After a long 12-hour shift, we had already spent almost two hours at the restaurant, and I was frustrated. I believe the manager could have handled the situation much better. Having previously worked as a server myself, I understand the importance of customer service. I never expected to leave a negative review for this place. I know tips are crucial in this business, and this experience left a bad taste. In summary – terrible customer service. We didn’t complain throughout the evening, but this incident topped it all off, and there were no apologies offered at our table.
The menu has remained fairly consistent since they opened, though I have noticed the prices have increased, similar to many other places. During happy hour, they offer a Kobe beef chanko set, but I prefer to mix it up with other meats and upgrade my broth to curry. Just a tip: if you order the curry broth and Zosui, they’ll provide a side of grated cheddar cheese and pickled daikon—similar to what you'd find at a curry house—making it almost like an extra meal! Another favorite of mine is the peach sochu, which you can order by the glass or pitcher—such a fun option! They also have a lovely dessert selection, so be sure to ask about the flavor of the month for their ice cream, as it changes once the tub runs out. Plus, there’s plenty of free parking available in the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center lot.
All you can eat meat special $38. Can't go wrong since it included the unlimited fountain drinks and the one scoop ice cream. Great choices of meat and apps. The karaage chicken was a favorite as the included appetizer choice. Another fave is the Ichiriki salad and tofu salad. Rice is included but I preferred eating the Ichiriki salad with the short ribs minus the croutons. Sake sampler at $12 was the perfect compliment to my meal. Service can be slow if restaurant is full as to be expected. We had to remind our server on a few things but it was no biggie. Enjoy!
So glad my favorite hot pot place is located in my hood. And what's great about this particular location is that on this particular visit, we walked in on a spur of the moment without a reservation and got seated right away. The happy hour menu is the best deal ever $20 for niku nabe, $5 for chicken karaage (which my son loves , and $5.50 for the melona shochu which is tastes like spiked ice cream (YUM! . Service is fantastic very accommodating and quick.
