Our experience in Kolhapur was a total disappointment, and we were looking forward to trying out the coastal food that Malvan has to offer. After a challenging journey through Gaganbawda, we finally reached Vaibhavwadi and started thinking about where to have lunch. Originally, we planned to eat at Atithi Bamboo (more about that in my next review), but by the time we reached Nandgao, it was already 2 pm and the kids in our group were getting hungry. After some searching and contacting people who knew the area, we decided to have lunch at Nikhil Lunch Home in Kankavli, and it turned out to be a great decision! Our group of 12 adults and 4 children arrived at 2:20 pm. I quickly placed our table order and our food arrived promptly. Most of us ordered the Surmai and Paplet Thali. The Paplet Thali included a big Paplet fish with paplet curry, Bangdyacho tikla, prawns wati, sukat, and solkadhi. The Surmai Thali had 2 pieces of surmai along with the same sides as the Paplet Thali. These thalis were among the top 3 thalis I have ever had, and definitely the best in terms of seafood. The prices were reasonable, and I also want to mention the staff at the counter. I have never seen someone so busy, yet he managed to take our orders and interact with us as he passed by our table. Nikhil Lunch Home made our trip memorable, and I wish all the best to the owners and staff at this gem of a restaurant.
I ordered the Surmai thali and it took almost 45 minutes to be served. The food was tasty, but the service was slow and cleanliness was an issue. The waiter was wearing dirty clothes and the table had multiple spots on it.
The fish thali at this restaurant is exceptional, with perfectly fried fish and a delicious side of solkadhi. It is truly heavenly tasty. Despite being busy, the service is very quick and efficient. The restaurant is clean with courteous staff. I definitely plan on returning.
For a fresh mouth water seafood meal, this is the place. It is just a few km away from Neelam's Countryside Resort towards Kankavli Market. A small place serving veg and nonveg meals, ur best bet is the fish thali pomfret, bombayduck, surmai, prawns and much more
Place is just on edge of city opposite to govt offices. On right side if you go from Mumbai to Goa after bus stand and small river. We opted for surmai king fish plate. It was very tasty. Fry surmai is best of Konkan. It costs around 250/ and its its worth every bite of it! I would recommend if you are passing via Goa Mumbai NH17 highway! Note, you might have waiting queue in peak hours.
