I recommend writing everyone on your notes app to remember what you want when you build your own bowl. The variety of options were great and I felt there was an unlimited amount of combinations you can choose from. My favorite part is how GENEROUS they were when they grabbed my bowl. I'll say my combo was delicious! No regret! I had enough for a second meal, Lol. I definitely come back. My Combo: Prohibited rice, White Sushi rice salmon Cucumber, edamame, Sriracha ponzu Crab mix, marinated kale, kimchi, roe, seaweeds Togarashi yuzu mayo Sesame seeds, Nori
That was a jewel! Fresh, clean and friendly! I thought I wanted to go back the next day. Caleb was as helpful as it was our first time to eat Poke? we are addicted!! Sushi Grad salmon, spicy tuna, crab, shrimp all with my favorites like Avocado, Gurke and Jalapeño it was Amazing. It is a cool, contemporary place, even the area loves. We will be regular!
Came here for a fast and healthy lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Beautiful poke on forbidden rice, friendly service and a very clean restaurant. Come back and try to build my own podium. Definitely worth the money in Kansas City
Walking distance from City Market (River Market) road cars pass this place. Tasty bowl, but rice cooked a bit too mushy and salmon cut a bit too small.
**Parking:** The restaurant is located in the River Market area of downtown KC, which means parking can be a bit of a challenge. However, there's a streetcar stop nearby, making it convenient for those in the working community to visit. **Facility:** The space is always clean and minimalistic, aligning perfectly with the brand's aesthetic while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and you can also find other nearby spots in the community to enjoy your meal outside. **Employees:** More often than not, I experience fantastic service and genuine respect from the staff here. Occasionally, I encounter someone who seems a bit dismissive or distracted; I like to think they might just be having a tough day. For those who might not know, Poké is a Hawaiian dish with deep Japanese roots, focusing on the experience of food and the pursuit of five fundamental tastes: sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami, with additional elements like temperature (cool and hot). To me, achieving this balance is the ultimate goal. I usually prefer to build my own bowl. **Size:** There are three options (1, 2, or 3 scoops), and I always go for the 3-scoop option. **Base:** You can choose up to 2 base options. I enjoy half Sushi Rice and half Forbidden Rice (black rice), which provides a wonderful texture and complements the sticky sushi rice nicely. **Protein:** You have the choice of land (chicken) or sea (various fish and shellfish). I typically select chicken. While it used to be shredded, it has recently been changed to chopped, which I don’t find as appealing for several reasons: the texture is less enjoyable, it’s harder to mix with the other ingredients, and I’ve found quite a few tough, inedible gristle pieces. **Mix-Ins:** You can choose up to 3. I often go for either all tomatoes or a mix of tomatoes and spring onions. **Marinade:** Pick one sauce to marinate your protein and mix-ins before they’re added to your base. My favorite is the Honey Ginger Tamari—it’s sweet with a tangy twist, similar to teriyaki. **Toppings:** Depending on the scoops (1 scoop allows 2 choices, 2 scoops allow 3 choices, and 3 scoops allow 5), you can pay extra for additional toppings. My usual selections include avocado (which incurs an upcharge), 2 servings of mango, 2 pickled gingers, spicy cashews, and sometimes sweet potato or sweet corn. However, I’ve been disappointed with the spicy cashews during my last two visits. Their flavor has become overwhelming, leaving a harsh aftertaste that detracted from my entire bowl experience. **Sauce:** You get one sauce choice. I'm a big fan of Avo Coco, a sweet and creamy blend made with avocados and coconut water, mixed with some spices and ingredients. I usually request extra. **Final Touches:** Here, you can select one final touch, and I typically choose fried onions. This restaurant also strives to be as eco-friendly as possible, which I think is fantastic.
