However, we were pleasantly surprised when we were seated promptly and received excellent service. The New York-style pizza was delicious and just what our group needed after a day of drinking.
The restaurant has a cool venue, but unfortunately, the sound booth is placed right in the middle of the seating/standing area. This meant that half of the people at the show could only see the bottom half of the band. It was a bit confusing as to why it was set up this way. Other than that, we had a great time!
The restaurant may not be the cleanest and the furniture and decor may be older, but it embraces its identity without hesitation. The menu perfectly represents the vibe of Grinders, with creative food names that reflect its character. Although they promote their pizza prominently, I opted for the JAX Ruben, which caught my eye. When I found out it came with chips but could be upgraded to fries or tots (both of which I couldn't eat due to dietary restrictions), I asked for other options. They offered a side salad, saving me from any guilt at the doctor's office. The Ruben was delicious, with well-marbled rye bread, thinly sliced, flavorful pastrami, a tasty dressing, and a spicy jalapeno coleslaw. If I ever returned with a group, I would recommend trying their pizza, as the aroma was enticing. Overall, Grinders is a no-frills, dive restaurant in the best possible way.
WoW. And not in a good way. Service still amazing food not like it used to be. Sad, this has always been our go to dive. It was fun while it lasted. Bye Grinders.
We were in town for a concert at Grinders KC (Bluegrass in the Bottoms 2021) Grinders KC is an outdoor concert venue out the back door of Grinders pizza/pub and it only seemed logical to eat a Grinders pizza. The staff was friendly, helpful, and fun, pizza was yummy and came out fast. Lots of great local/craft beer choices and cocktails. If you are in the downtown KC area and are hungry for pizza or need to cool off with a yummy brew Grinders is the place to go.
