After a solid morning seeking new food to interest the hound, checking out some paintings at the Royal Queensland Artists Society - interesting work by a Ms Tainton, worth checking - and Scandinavian furniture at Vinyl Frontier (both on Petrie Terrace), not to mention grabbing hold of a well priced original CCR vinyl album in good nick, I decided it was lunch time, so I put on the 50 , dropped the roof to the car and drove to Kelvin Grove where I had noticed the specials board outside Confucian Cuisine and had earmarked it for a try and I was happy with my decision: quite a smart and informal little place for about 40 people, a good size kitchen and plenty of staff, and popular with Chinese QUT student couples, I noticed, and there were also two or three crusty academics; I grabbed a table by the window and ordered a $13.50 lunch special: iced black tea is part of the special, as is soup- a pleasant broth with chunks of meat and potato and carrot, and from a selection I went for the salt and pepper pork ribs and rice (which came with green cabbage), and the serve was quite big - obviously designed for hungry students from QUT college which is all around; I also ordered a Sapporo beer from the tap which was nicely chilled and very pleasant. An informal place, yet it also has sufficient style to take someone to dinner there, and maybe I will. Content, I went home to feed the hound, and play my new (old) CCR album- which I did with the doors open for the afternoon breeze on a sunny afternoon, not to irk the neighbours with my music tastes. Good value food, pleasant, and nice staff.
The food was delicious and freshly made and the staff were extremely welcoming and offered great service. I would definitely visit again!
This restaurant is off the main eatery street of kelvin grove however it is worth the walk. Great service, tasty food and a relaxed environment.
Efficient and inexpensive. Young enthusiastic staff members serving very good chinese good. San chou bau was exceptional, salt and pepper tofu pretty good, scallops perfectly cooked and the fillet steak chinese style, which was sizzling was very tasty but smoked out the place first. BYO.
