Palm Court - Key Largo

The location of this resort is fabulous. Some areas have been redone and are very nice. But the hotel we were located (Pompano building) was tired and in need of demolition. Way overpriced for the room and building. The Dolphin building looked nice and newly remodeled. But again, resort was nice and restaurants very good. We had a golf event and found the staff at club rude and disinterested in servicing our group. Had 8 foursomes day 1 and 5 the second day. Unfortunately would not be in favor of scheduling our conference there again as much as I like the location.

This is is response to the recent YPO’r from New York. First I’d like to point out that ORC is a Private Club located in the Northern part of Key Largo and that location comes with a cost. Second if find it “rich” that a YPO’r another exclusive club (often referred to as Your Parents Organization) is being so judgmental presuming they arrived on their private jet into the ORC air strip. ORC does have some “dated” accommodations as they continue the clean up and restoration from one of the most devastating hurricanes in the history of the Keys. Resort fees are common everywhere and cleaning fees are all too common due to the recent pandemic (being from NYC) i am certain you are familiar with mandates, restrictions, and limited use amenities. The Staff at ORC exudes pleasure and friendliness from the maintenance team to the servers to the outdoor crews ever so active. The Dining at ORC is always top notch The Cleanliness at ORC is often impeccable sans when “Guests” leave their messes lying around in expectation of another to pick up after them (as if the ORC team is their servant). Attitude of goes a very long way and seemingly the combination of YPO and NYC was a bit off putting. There are staff shortages everywhere and the $2400 event fee is likely for your use as a non member event… Either way i am sorry your experience was not up to par but I can assure you that ORC hits the ball squarely more often than not…. I went to a YPO business retreat at the Ocean Reef Club in January. When I was checking in, I noticed a 15/night Amenity Fee . I asked if this was optional and of course they said, No. So I asked what it covered and they said a variety of stuff... including room cleaning . I 'm sure she mispoke and I asked them to waive the charge. They wouldn 't. I object to having to pay a lot of money for a hotel room and then being nickel dimed for a 15 fee. Resorts spend a lot of time building their brand and it irks me when maintinaing and building their brand gets in teh way of making money. As it did here. I couldn 't find convenient parking, but they did have an EV charger for free which was really nice. The room is dated. It feels old and it is nothing special. It feels like Old Florida, a little damp and musty. Another bone to pick was that they had a nespresso machine in the room (which was great but rather than using Nespresso capsules, they replaced it with cheap knockoffs. Again, they are focused on and cents rather than the brand. It was confusing getting around and the map did not have the name of any of the locations where we had to meet. At night, they had a buffet cookout with a huge pork (I don 't eat pork At breakfast the next day, they had simple eggs and bacon buffet, but ran out of coffee!!! At lunch, they had a grab and go box lunch (Subway would have been better Before dinner, they had cocktails without horsdouevres. Time and again, they found ways to cut corners to save money that cumulatively gave you the sense that they were milking this old cow. The walls of the room were so thin that we could hear the couple next door (and we are sure that they could hear us We had lunch outside on the patio. Staff walked around two-by-two (for protetion? but no was focused on helping guests. We heard a lady say that she lost her server. We saw a guy putting up his own umbrella. We saw a lady putting away her own umbrella. We saw two servers chit chatting over Excedrin (how much to take . Service was really sub-par. Whenever we tried to make constructive criticism we were met with a I really don 't care attitude. I called upon leaving the hotel to ask for my bill. They said they would email it to me. That was 5 hours ago. I 've now been old hold for 15 minutes just trying to get my bill emailed to me. The room was not cheap and the two day event cost 2, 400 on top of the room fee. I would not go back to Ocean Reef unless it was for an event that I felt was must attend Save your money and spend it in Miami (or almost any other luxury hotel in Florida

The Reception staff is kind but NOT helpful at all. We made a reservation for an ocean view room the only view we have is of 10’ hedges boats parked in the channel. There were also several broken things in the room (phone, coffee maker). Stay away from Amber Jack #109. The worst part is after 2 requests to change rooms, they just “noted” our concerns and never offered a comparable room— for 3 nights.

My wife and I anticipated the usual overpriced resort patio with average food, but we were pleasantly surprised by the Palm Court. Firstly, the prices were quite reasonable. More importantly, the food was genuinely delicious. For lunch, I ordered a shake and fish tacos with waffle fries, and both items were outstanding. If you're staying at ORC, this is a fantastic place for lunch.
