Queenscliff - KINGSCOTE

Rustic place. You book and pay for the food at the cash desk then it is served at the table. Good quality of food, possibility to eat kangaroo meat. The desserts are also good.

The "Queenie" is a splendid country pub, set on Kangaroo Island in "downtown" Kingscote, the capital of KI.Apart from the usual pub offerings, they have also a pub food menu that is fine.Here, you will mix with the locals, rather than the visitor bar that is the nearby Aurora Ozone Hotel.At night, the place is on a slight rise with lights all about, like it is a special place.And it is.There is a bottle shop next door for packaged goods, including a few of the many KI wines that are hard to find elsewhere.Worth a visit, if only for a quick drink.

We went on parmi night and got told we might need to book in the middle of winter. We didn't but it was busy. 20 different parmi toppings and your choice of beef or chicken. No hassle basic pub food. Simple but good.

I was neither disappointed or ecstatic. Our T-Bone and Beef Snitz was what we expected from pub food with a nice beer and lemon lime bitters.

As I am on a diet, I always ask for sauces or dressings on the side, it's just better for me to be able to put it on myself. We did show up 6 minutes till lunch end (which was an accident) and we told the waitress numerous times (5 to be exact) that we would go elsewhere because as a waitress myself I despise customers like that, she insisted the chef could do it because she was cooking already, so we ordered. As we walked out of the restaurant into the bar area, we stopped at the ATM to get money out for the horse races and heard through the kitchen door the chef tell the waitress "they're not getting the glaze on the side". I was baffled. Enough to ask for my money back? Yes. But I was so hungry that I ate it anyways. It is so unprofessional, especially when it is such an EASY thing to do, to put dressing on the side, I mean really Chef? We were told to order even though it was 6 minutes to close. RESPECT my order. Will not be eating there ever again, and being a new local, I would've brought my friends there as well, won't be now.
