Royal Garden - Kingston

I love this restaurant for what it is - a classic American Chinese joint. The pork fried rice is perfectly cooked with a dark brown color, the chicken fingers are delicious, and the pan-fried soft noodles are made just the way they should be.

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant last Saturday. The food was decent, but the service was awful, and the bill ended up being much higher than we anticipated. Overall, not a great experience.

This restaurant serves microwaved, overcooked, dry, and awful food. The portions are half the size of other sushi restaurants. Save your money and go somewhere else. It's not worth it.

In my opinion, the quality of Chinese food has declined compared to years ago. It appears that many restaurants have chosen to cut costs by using lower quality ingredients. Egg rolls are a perfect example of this, as they no longer taste the same and the ingredients have changed. Most now taste like a spring roll, rather than an egg roll. However, I must say that Royal Gardens restaurant stands out as they provide great service and everything on their menu was delicious, including their egg roll which was better than most. I was impressed and eager to return soon.

I just received a small portion of food from this place for $20! I ordered teriyaki and got about 12 small pieces of meat, but a lot of rice. I don't want to spend $20 on a combo plate that is mostly rice! The food was also barely warm when I opened it, even though I live only 10 minutes away. There is no reason why it shouldn't be hot. The ribs were dry as well. It seems like they had prepared the order before and forgot about it until I called to pick it up. This was one of the worst experiences I've had at a Chinese restaurant. I will not order from them again. I will stick with Happy Dragon in Halifax, where I ordered from last year when I moved here. They have much better food and you get twice as much for half the price compared to Royal Garden. I guess you get what you pay for.
