The Fishmarket - Kinsale

This restaurant is said to be the best in town, but we found it to be very average and overpriced. The specials were the only highlight, showcasing the talent of the cook. The service was also just average. It definitely does not live up to being the best fish restaurant.

We arrived into Kinsale late on a Saturday evening, with no real idea of where to go for dinner. We happened upon this busy bistro and were welcomed in by a very warm and accommodating duty manager and staff. A table was found for us and our orders were taken without haste. After a highly recommendable fish ‘n’ chips and beer, another table was found for us so that we could enjoy the evening’s musical entertainment, Crazy Chester. A very enjoyable evening all round.

My husband and I had a day to ourselves on our recent trip to Ireland. We stopped in Kinsale for a late lunch and happened upon the Fish Market at the Blue Haven. We decided to take a chance after reading some good tripadvisor reviews. This was a great choice, as we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The restaurant was more full than I would have expected considering it was past normal lunchtime hours. Service was excellent attentive without being pushy or overbearing. My husband ordered the seafood chowder (this may not be the correct name), and I ordered the smoked salmon. Both were excellent. The seafood chowder was rich and creamy, and loaded with seafood. My smoked salmon was delicious, with the saltiness of the salmon nicely offset by the greens, orange slices and pomegranate seeds. While it was just lunch, we thoroughly enjoyed a delicious and leisurely meal. I'd happy return there on our next trip to Ireland!

Very welcoming and friendly staff. Beautiful place and to top it off the food was INCREDIBLE. I had 3 courses, oysters to start they were absolutely delicious. Mussels for main, in most restaurants when you order mussels I’m either disappointed with the taste or the portion but not in this case, when I saw the waitress walking towards me with a POT i thought that’s hardly for me but my god did I finish every last one very very happy with this dish and to top it all off was a BEAUTIFUL sticky toffee pudding which I would recommend to EVERYONE, diabetics and all it’s worth nearly dying for I will certainly be be going back for more.

We had dinner at a place with lame dessert selections. We planned on going to Sundays but they were closed. So we checked out the menu here. So super glad we did! This was our favorite dessert of all Ireland!! We probably should have gotten one to share but we each got our own.
