This bar is not just about beers as there is a great selection of other spirits and wines with some very good gins. The bar has gained an excellent reputation for its excellent selection of fresh food cooked daily with a wide range which also caters for vegetarians and vegans. Some of the stews and casseroles created are a blend of the homely and exotic and I would recommend signing up to their facebook page to be kept up to date with the menu changes. There is also a good selection of sandwiches and a fresh soup every day and they have just started a Sunday carvery which is exceptional value. The bar acts as a brewery tap for Mallinsons to showcase their excellent beers but there are always good and unusual guest beers and a good bottle selection. The best part is the welcome you recieve at this pub as it is always warm and friendly and this comes from the Manager/Landlady Sam, who is renowned for the quality of the pubs and bars she has run. Don't miss this hidden away treat on a trip to Huddersfield , however it can be a bit busy on a Saturday if Huddersfield Town are at home !
An excellent place to dine out, or just simply have a nice pint of beer, or a glass of wine. The staff and management team are always so welcoming, and can't do enough for you. If you were to ask anything bad about the place, I couldn't think of anything. The food that Sam put's on is always delicious and full of flavour. The special food nights are also a treat, and the quality of the food is fantastic, and very reasonably priced. In addition in the bar area, you can enjoy food, and take your 4 legged friend along with you, where they too will make friends with other 4 legged friends!
A word of warning, don’t even think about complaining about the food here unless you want a torrent of abuse from the landlady and bar man, to be repeatedly shouted at, when we’d simply asked for a refund as the food was inedible. We ordered two sandwiches and a portion of curly fries which appeared nearly an hour after ordering them (the bar wasn’t busy and very few people were eating). To say the fries and one of the sandwiches were inedible is an understatement but apparently curly fries are meant to be the soggy mess that we were presented with, as, in the land lady’s own words, “they’re curly fries, they haven’t been fried” which was her explanation for the bowl of soggy, mushy mess we were given. The cheese sandwich was also incredibly soggy but apparently all cheese melts are a pile of soggy, indigestible gloop. When we asked for our money back as the food was inedible, we were repeatedly shouted at by both the landlady and the bar man, told that there was no way they would return our money and that other people ate the food without complaining. They were so incredibly rude and unprofessional and I’m still in shock at the way we were spoken to and treated by these people, but this is nothing compared to the vitriolic outpouring and blatant lies the landlady has posted on Facebook, and the aggressive and incredibly demeaning comments her friends have posted about a situation they know nothing about a very concerned mutual friend notified me of this. My husband and I have been called every name imaginable, told we need kicking down the stairs, threatened to send people round to sort us out and ‘terror’ us. Apparently we do this for a living and they should have taken our photos to shame us...all because we asked for a refund for food that was inedible. I can’t begin to explain how shaken and upset this has left my husband and I.
I go up north two or three times a year, The Corner is always one of the highlights of those trips. Friendly and capable staff, excellent beer and cider, and homemade traditional food that I dream about all year long. The visit will certainly be good for your pocket too! I could not go to Huddersfield without going to The Corner.
So many options here at the corner. Staff walked me through my vegan options with knowledge and were happy to add and remove stuff to certain dishes so you know it’s all home cooked goodness. Beer is spot on, as is their spirit collection. You can tell that the owners care about serving quality drinks. Music set the atmosphere and the plants everywhere are lovely. So much care has gone into this little gem and you can tell. Thanks so much to all the friendly staff that made my time here enjoyable!
